Hey there, I'm new to DD and to webcomics in general, but I had a question that I couldn't quite pick out in the legal stuff/privacy policies. If I post my comic here on DD, do I still retain all rights, that I could move it, publish it (on my own or with a large company), or just take it down if need be?
I just want to be sure I'll totally remain in control of my work and not get snagged by a stupid rule a year down the road or such.
It's my understanding that you retain all your rights when posting comics on here. Unless you and Platinum Studios have a contract (pretty much only if you get into the comic book challenge though).
Many members here have their comics on mirror sites and/or in print (either self-publishing or through a company other than PS), so I'm pretty sure there's no creator's rights issue.
My comics are about knives, rats, and rats with knives.
Yes, you retain total control over your comic. Use DD as a mirror, remove comments, put ads like project wonderful on your page, leave whenever you like, etc. DD claims no ownership, influence, or control of any of the comics posted here by users.
The only times an admin would intervene with a comic account are:
- if your comic is being used to attack other DD members
- if you're doing something stupid like making 3 duplicate accounts
- if you add advertising to your site that involves malicious or explicitly adult ads
- if the content of the comic is either A: illegal (child porn, etc), or B: not a comic at all, being used like a photobucket account
Those all qualify as misuses of the site and does not necessarily have anything to do with the comic in question.
There used to be an FAQ section here somewhere that explicitly said that DD acquires no rights to your work whatsoever (unless you subsequently sign a contract with Platinum, obviously).
I can't find the FAQs now. They must have disappeared in the recent redesign of the site.
Question 1.
If I post my comic here on DD, do I still retain all rights, that I could move it, publish it (on my own or with a large company), or just take it down if need be?
Answer 1.
All rights to your work become the property of Ozoneocean when you post them on this site and he can do what he likes with them hahahahahaha!
Stupid indeed. What would be the point of having it three times??? I mean, you're splitting your potential readership between three names! Now there's a "great" way to make it in the rankings... not.
