I've got a suggestion - could you perhaps give users an option to disable empty comments on their comics? I'm not saying "disable them at all", because maybe some people like getting an empty meaningless 5, just give us a box to tick "disable empty comments for this comic" in comic setup.

I'm asking about that because ever since I'm here I've seen this stupid thing - people posting a comment with max. rating and no word at all. Are they reading the comic at all? Such comments are junk. They bring absolutely nothing in, only clog space. If you have nothing to say - don't post a comment. Rating system is meaningless too, as rarely you get rates below 5.

Some people actually 'blank comment' or add pre-made comments to advertise for themselves.

On the other hand, a 'blank 5' just may mean that they like your comic and want to let you know, but don't wish to comment. Some people are shy and/or afraid of writing something embarrassing that they can't take back.

Either way, any comment you don't want - just report it, we Admins will delete the comment for ya, no questions asked.

EDIT/// Or, I guess you can do what you did, which was delete your entire comments area by not placing the code in the template.

I personally think that's pretty anti-community, though. :/

But ain't it like getting these users in trouble? They get warnings and then ban...

I'm trying to customize the template. Got pretty angry with the avatar, which apparently cannot be fully removed from the author's comments.

And I'm mixed what to do. I have an official forum where every update is to be discussed and making people have to register somewhere automatically discourages those, who have nothing to say. But on the other hand some people are discouraged to read the comic as well...

Nope. Admins have 4 options for a reported comment.

Okay | Bad | Bad+Rude | Bad+Snipe

Blank comments (or ratings with blank comments) get a "Bad", no warning level elevated.

Rude Comments get a "Bad+Rude", and earns a 10% increase of the commenter's warning level. But they need to clearly be rude. Not just criticisms.

Snipes (1's with no comments or rude comments) get a "Bad+Snipe" and earns a 20% increase of the commenter's warning level.

Over 100%, your account gets frozen and goes down 1% each day the perpetrator stays out of trouble. Soooo, you really have to be quite a jerk to get banned.

Hey, you can shrink the avatars down, or make them non-existant. Just throw this in your <head> tags:

<style type="text/css">
body {
background-color: #FF0000;
margin: 0px;
padding: 0px;
text-decoration: none;
color: #333;
font: normal 12px "News Gothic Std", Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif;
}

.avatar_commentator {
width: 0px;
height: 0px;
margin-right: 10px;
}

.avatar_author {
width: 0px;
height: 0px;
margin-right: 10px;
}

</style>

By fully here meant "with occupied space". And yes, I already know you can do nothing about it.

Thanks for info

Wouldn't it disappear if you used "display:none;" in the CSS? Basically just like SpANG suggested, but with the "display:none;" instead of what he has.

When I give a blank 5, It's usually because I have, literally, nothing to say.

This space is grey.

I used to get angry at blank 5's as well. Nowadays, I get so few comments, that I would gladly welcome a blank 5, if only to let me know that somebody out there still enjoys my comic.

I'm okay with blank 5's. It's kind of like commentless favs on DA. They're still compliments, in a way, even if they are lazy.
