Wouldn't this invite anyone that hasn't been featured to assault your PQ box? =p
Devon Legacy comes back in October... ahem :3
QUOTE: On the somewhat good side, the list is now down to a more manageable 70 comics.

I don't get that many people sending suggestions Maybe one a week. I don't mind, it can all go on the list. I start checking them out when it comes time to restock the queue. Some get dumped for some reason or another, some move up to the 'almost definitely' list, and some stick around in limbo until I make up my mind about them. At any point, a third of my list is 'almost definitely' and just waiting for the right opportunity, a third is in limbo, and a third I haven't really looked at yet.
I did some other sorting out of the list today too and dumped a bunch of 'limbo' comics. That always kind of makes me sad, because those comics are the ones that are above average but not distinctive, or have some 'fatal' flaw. Too much fan art in the archives, too many grammar mistakes in the writing, the art is just not good enough, too irregular of an update schedule, etc.
I've been putting off pruning my favorites list. A couple comics that I liked wandered off in a direction that now contains no interest for me. I also realized that, holy cripes! There are two comics in my favorites that haven't updated since August 2007! Do I really think they are coming back? Do I think that if they do return, I won't be able to find them? Maybe I'm worried about hurt feelings... (Although, if they've been gone since last August, who'll be hurt?)
Btw, I have been wondering why newsposts aren't posted in the forum any more. I always thought it was kind of cool. Actually, I used to use the forums to read the news, since I'm here already and can notice the updates. -- That was when news was only on the front page. I can see how it might not be necessary now, and I wouldn't suggest anyone taking on more work. I'm just curious why it stopped.

My comics are about knives, rats, and rats with knives.
We just got bored with doing it, I think the news was already in one place, why put it in two? Every now and then a newspost would generate some discussion (pretty rare) but in those cases they were usually important enough subjects to go into General. We have a forums redesign in mind and the News forum is gonna go.
*Braces self for the outcry of "New sucks! We miss old!" that will inevitably follow.*
Makes sense. There hasn't been a post here for a long time, and the two important sticky threads will be just as happy elsewhere. I think the news forum was useful back when news was on just the front page, though, because people (well, me anyway) checked the forums far more than the front page and otherwise would have missed a few newsposts.

I wouldn't hold your breath about the forums changing any time soon There's no one to do it, basically.
If they DO decide to alter the forum, I think a search feature should be added. That way you can search for something more easily than going through the archives and HOPE that you can find an answer for something.
Ah well.. it seems to me, lots of average comics can get into the feature nowadays. Absolutely no harm intended to anyone who's been featured, but honestly, someone that truly deserves it, by having a kick-ass storytelling and same-level images to go with it-comic, probably won't feel as proud as they would be if a comic gets featured once a (2)month(s), and then the most brillianst of brilliant.
It does sound a bit bitchy, I know. But that's just because I think the original reason behind the featuring has been a bit forgotten.
We feature people's comics for aspects that we consider high quality. Not everybody will like our choices, but there's a lot of variation in comics here, the features should reflect that.
Way back in the day, we did used to feature one comic a month. People got bored of them really quickly and lost interest after a week. Then there would be this same thumbnail on the front page for a month and it made it look like DD didn't really have much good to offer. People wanted more variety and more often.
Our point with the features was NEVER to offer only 'the best of the best'- what you think was the 'original reason' for featuring, wasn't. Instead it was to feature good or unique comics, to show off some of what DD has to offer, to expose people to different types of comics and to try and get some readers for comics we felt were underexposed. To limit features to only the most perfect comics was pretty unrealistic (and fairly subjective too). It's pretty rare to find publisher-quality comics on the web, and DD has only a small fraction of those.
Plus anyone who's going to mope because they feel like their specialness has been tainted by inferior company... well, they should probably just get off Drunk Duck
