Last night in #drunkduck, Blu listed her all time favorite movies. (a list of about 20 or so.) I didn't agree with every choice she made, but most of her picks were exceptionally good. Also, there were a couple I hadn't seen and would like to check out.

It got me thinking of all the movies I love, and I was curious about what other people liked. So I figured I'd list five of my faves here and ask you to do the same. They don't have to be your most favorite of favorites, just five movies you love off the top of your head. (If I said absolute favorites, I'd be sitting here for hours debating myself.)

As for my list of five... in no particular order...

City of God (Brazilian biopic about a photographer growing up in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. Not for kids, lots of drugs and violence.)

The Triplets of Belleville (Great animation)

The Royal Tenenbaum's (I hated Owen Wilson until I saw this movie, but the best part is Gene Hackman)

The Princess Bride. (though the book is better)

The Fisher King. (A lot of minor great elements and performances come together to create one of my favorite movies ever. Other Gilliam movies are much more famous than this one, but I like Fisher King best.)

Wow. That was hard... There are a lot of movies that I love that I had to leave out
(Full Metal Jacket, The Godfather, The Incredibles, 101 Dalmations, The Secret of Nimh were all considered, but... maybe they'll be on your list... or maybe I should have just made it "ten movies you think everyone should see" )

Hrm. In no particular order, I think my top five favorites are:

Yeah It was pretty hard...There are many great movies... But even if I love comics, and draw them myself, there are no Spiderman,Ironman or whatever, dont know why, but Im not considering those worth to be in top 5.I like tricks better than special effects and that might be the factor :P Cant wait to see top 5's from other people though xD

I've been wanting to see Sweeney Todd... Also, I should have mentioned The Nightmare Before Christmas somewhere... even if it has been over-exposed.
I'm also planning on seeing The Dark Knight soon.

LotR: Fellowship of the Ring
So, Return of the King might have got all the Oscars but this was the film that set the ground rules and made us believe Hobbiton and Bree might actually be real places just around the next hill!

Twelve Monkeys
Time travel with none of that messy paradox stuff. Not a redundant scene or line in it - everything just knits together to make a perfect whole.

Brazil
So many scenes have become classics in their own right, it's impossible to watch it now without counting all the movies and adverts that have shamelessly stolen from it.

Pulp Fiction
Usually remembered largely for its violence but more impressive for its clever script and stunning use of sequences cut together out of chronological order.

The Matrix
So many people have tried to make a film around the idea of virtual reality that's both intelligent entertainment and high on adrenaline. Existenz came close but this one is in a league of its own. Shame about the sequels!

Ooh, just five? Okay, five of my favorite movies, here we go!

Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins
My single favorite movie of all time. I watch it at least twice a year and love it more with each viewing. This movie literally changed my life, or at least my reading habits, beginning an obsession with pulp fiction, especially '70's action/adventure, that has not dimmed in the slightest.

Die Hard
My personal favorite action film, this movie just blows my mind. Each scene was well-crafted, with a believable main character and tons of thrills.

Duck Soup
I swear, I laugh harder at this movie every time I see it. A brilliant, and none-too-subtle, parody of government and war.

Raiders of the Lost Ark
The greatest adventure movie of all time, with one of the most likable main characters of all time, with one of the greatest musical scores of all time. Plus, Indy got to stop evil Nazis from carrying out sinister plans; movies don't get much better than this.

Ratatouille
Honestly? I went into this movie cautiously optimistic and was utterly floored. My favorite movie of the last couple years. I went through an entire rollercoaster of emotion while watching this movie. Exactly how a family movie should be done.

I have so many more, but deciding on five was quite fun. It made me think for a few minutes.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
My favorite movie of all time. (I absolutely love the other two, of course, but this one is my personal favorite.)

Face/Off
My favorite action movie, and I'm not even sure why.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Oh man, I could gush about this movie all day! I know it's never been considered a Disney "classic", but I love it to pieces. The soundtrack is gorgeous (but that could just be because I'm a sucker for soundtracks featuring a Latin mass), and I just love watching the animation, especially the backgrounds.

The Princess Bride
Never gets old.

Amadeus
Again, I'm not quite sure what it is about this movie that I love. I just...do.

Conan The Barbarian
-Frazzetta pictures brought to life! Fur steel and blood... Plus Jame Earl Jones as Thulsa Doom ^___^

Amalie
-Delightful, light, and fun. Joyful!

Vengo
-Dark and rich. Heavenly music, amazingly beautiful imagery.

Lola Rent
-SUCH a cool story, GREAT soundtrack, HYPER!

The Life Aquatic With Steve Siszou.
-Laconic and lovely. Funny, childish, and enjoyable.

Dr. Strangelove: the perfect movie, black comedy with no equal that is as relevant to day as it was in the 60's.

West Side Story: brilliant songs shot on the streets of NYC's old upper west side just before it's demolition, still melts my heart.

The Godfather: Brando, Pachino and Coppola at the top of their game.

Wizard of Oz: little Judy Garland at the beginning of her long troubled career, still breaks my heart to hear her sing over the rainbow.

Star Wars(Ep4): just can't ever get sick of this movie, I laughed I cried, I've seen it a bazillion times.

Honorable mention: The Shining, Adventures of Robin Hood, Sunset Boulevard, I'm Not There, Sixth Sense, The Dark Knight.

I usually like movies the same amount but 5 movies that I'd buy and watch many times are:

Fightclub- Never read the book but the movie was great. Concept, plot, narration... And come on, Brad Bitt, Helena Carter, and Edward Norton? XD

Memoirs of a Geisha- First mainstream movie I've seen with all Asians as the main characters. It's so annoying when a movie is set in a foreign country and the main character(the hero) still has to be illogically white. Beautifully done, and well, refreshing.

Kill Bill- Both of the movies. Loved the fighting scenes, the music, the setting... even the plot. Some people might say there was no plot, and a lot of stuff were left unexplained but I think people were supposed to fill in the blanks themselves. If not, the characters made up for it.

Pirates of the Caribbean- Epic. Go pirates. Not so much the last two though.

Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind- I love movies that mess with the human psyche. And this one... was really sweet. Made me cry too. Oh, and smart filming if I'm allowed to judge.

Okay, I lied. There's way more than 5 but just one more! Chicago- The music, the drama.

Oh, and I forgot the really good animated movies. Shoot. Well, you know Disney and Pixar.

Fargo-Steve Buscemi's best movie moments.
Godfather 2-The mafia had never been so epic before Godfather 2!
The Shining-It is the horror movie.
The Green Mile-This was an amazing movie. It had the right balance of sad, disturbing, and somehow uplifting.
The Big Lebowski-SHUT THE FUCK UP, DONNY!


Also, Sweeney Todd, in my personal opinion, sucked balls.

Lets see...so many movies...gah! I'll just name five that i loved in no particular order:

1. Donnie Darko- just for Frank!

2. Hot Rod- so stupid that i had to love it.

3. The Man who knew too little- Bill Murrays best performance, and this movie is great but no one has seen it! Hilarious go watch it!

4. American Werewolf in London- I remember thinking this was really cool when i saw it. i always felt bad for the main guy, if only i could remember his name...

5. The Dark Knight- awesome. no, perfect

oh! And here is Number six, cuz i couldnt resist: SPEED RACER! because it was bright and colorful and stupid!

I feel like a broken record, mentioning these again....but oh well.

These are not what I believe to be the best films ever made or anything, but my own personal favourites at the time of writing.


5 - The Dark Knight
I'm a little unsure about this one, since it's so very, very recent, but as a kid I loved the Bruce Timm Batman cartoon, and this is the movie I would have loved to have seen back then. I just think it's everything a movie should be, and it managed to push Alien out of my top five.

4 - There Will be Blood
This one's also recent, but I'm not unsure about it in the slightest. Mesmerizing.

3 - The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
I could've put any Leone western on this list more or less, but this is the most iconic, even for that last scene alone.

2 - The Big Lebowski
I could watch this on a loop for the rest of my life.

1 - Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn
No, seriously - this is my favourite movie of all time. It's perfect.

The Fellowship of the Ring... brilliantly realised.

The Iron Giant... a masterpiece of story-telling.

Mad Max II... sparked a riot of cheap copy-cat movies unfortunately.

Aliens... The first was great, but the sequel was pure genius.

Highlander... original, brilliant story well captured on film.

Can I sneak in Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, Eternal Sunshine, Sixth Sense, Triplets of Belleville, Shawshank, Raiders, 12 Monkeys, Braveheart, ...Oh Gods... I can't stop... there's too many...

Right now, I'm trying to figure out which of those to replace with "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle." It's so hard to choose!
