i'm talking about live action movies. would they be able to pull off a pokemon live action movie? metal gear would probably work, but I can't think of an actor would be snake. any other suggestions of live action movies? sorry if there's already a topic on this
If anything bad happens,I'm blaming Global Warming.
That would require an insane amount of CGI or an even more insane amount of animatronic models.
Not to mention an unrelated plot (to the anime, games, manga) that would have to make sense to non Pokemaniacs.
It's entirely possible, but it's not going to happen anytime soon. And if it does, there's a large chance of basing the lot of it off of the anime (a.k.a. What many consider to be the low point of the franchise, not my personal opinion, though)
the problem with Pokemon in live action is that it could fall into the trap like the Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles did, but then again the technology is better.
I've been hearing uwe bollhas been messing up game movies for a long time. so if that accusation is true then don't let him direct the metal gear movie!
Actually, Uwe Boll was trying very hard to get the license to do a Metal Gear movie. But, unlike the Bloodrayne people, Hideo Kojima actually gives a damn about the story for his character, so he killed that off at the source.
As for Snake, Nicolas Cage might be good at the part, though, he doesn't quite look like him.
"The only moral it is possible to draw from this story is that one should never throw the letter Q into a privet bush, but unfortunately there are times when it is unavoidable."
-Douglas Adams, The Restaurant At the End of the Universe
Video games with emphasis on the storyline could work as movies (or series, if the game's too long for a feature), but there's always the special effects to consider. What we're willing to accept in a video game might not work in a movie - next to actual people, some special effects strain the limits of suspension of disbelief.
Metal Gear might work out, if they could get good enough actors for the parts - it's got the action/spy-movie appeal, after all - but Pokemon is pretty much doomed to fail. While I've only played the first games (Pokemon Blue all the way!) and don't know how the story has developed over the next few games, the core plot remains the same; some kid has to collect x number of monsters, which he keeps in little spheres and fights other monsters with.
There's not a whole lot you can do with that, and besides, the pokemon themselves would probably look silly no matter how you do them. Look at the new Narnia movie - the creatures are well made, but with very few exceptions, they all look unreal. With Pokemon, that particular problem is even bigger, because the creature-designs look unreal to begin with, and trying to fit them into the world of live-action while still remaining true to those character-designs is more or less impossible, at least in my opinion.
I would love to see a live action Pokemon, with the Pokemon played by puppets and not 3D. ^_^
Ooh, me too. Puppets have a sturdier, more "real" appearance than any computer animation, because it doesn't have to struggle with getting the lighting right, for example.
I actually prefer the 1988 TV mini-series of Narnia to the new and CGI'd Chronicles of Narnia movie - it's somehow easier to suspend my disbelief when Aslan is played by a big puppet (in some scenes, you can actually see pipes and stuff moving under the skin of the puppet - look at when it raises its paws) than when it's an all-CGI creature-cast. I don't know why.

Except they kind of blow it by throwing in the 2D animated sequences which pull you out of the series even more than the CG creatures of the newer movie.
I still say that the original Devil May Cry could work as a movie. It already has the standard Hollywood thriller plot of "go somewhere, fight monsters, get the girl" and the acting in a movie will probably be a whole lot better than the acting in the game anyway.
Seriously, a DMC movie would be good fun. It would take an idiot of astronomical proportions to ruin it.

Oh, they could find one...
But yeah, I agree. You could have a movie that's essentially just all the plot points with the dungeon-crawling kept to a minimum and you'd have a summer blockbuster-grade flick on your hands.
I guess what bothers me about that is the fact that it only works because the original DMC had such a lackluster plot; it was fairly minimum and what of it you did see was kinda hokey and been-done by that point...
It doesn't matter how lacking or great the original plot of the game way, hollywood will inevitably change it and make it as bad as it can be. That goes double for anything that was originally a Japanese game.
You have never seen the Silent Hill movie have you? It turned out great and it was because they stuck to the plot of the game. Parent with kid goes to Silent Hill, car crashes, kid gone, parent goes to find kid, monsters, prymaid head, god refenrce, ect. Most of video game based movies rarily follow the plot of the game and the movie suffers for it. That being said I would love to see a Suffering movie. One of few video games I found scarey(had to sleep with the lights on) and it had a great plot with a do you do elment.Or a LoZOT movie.

.... o.O 2D sequences? Why do I not remember this? I recall the beavers being played by people in animal suits, and I recall Father Christmas and the orange-y sparkles Lucy's bottle makes, but I don't remember the 2D sequences.
Watch it again, they're pretty hard to miss. I have it on DVD and for things like the battle scenes they switch over to some pretty awful looking 2D animation and it rips you right out of the moment.
In world that's mildly rectangular in shape, one man must maneuver the falling blocks down in the proper way to make sure that the world isn't over-run with deadly lava.
Starring Tom Cruise: "You see, we need to get the blocks lined up in a way where there aren't any holes."
Angelina Jolie: "Where is that music coming from?"
And Arnold Schwarzenegger: "Yhuul nevar maeke eet! We need to get to zee choppa!"
In an action movie nearly as old as ASCII itself...

if they make a metroid movie, they better not give samus a love life. unless it happened in a game, i haven't played the games yet
