So we are always seeing posts around here for writers looking for artists. Being a writer who has collaborated with a number of artist myself I know a the secret to attracting an artist to your project. You pay them money.
This gave me an idea. What if there was a contest for just writers. The winning writer would get the money for an artist or at least some of the money. It could be a jumpstart to get a webcomic rolling.
So I decided to start just such a contest and use the meager profits I get from my main comic Exiern to fund it. You can see the details here:
$150 wouldn't get me four pages of the quality I would like. The smallest project I have running is either $300k volunteer or $800k return.
Just to clarify things, I suggest a limit to the total number of projected pages be set. I guess 20 no-ad is pretty common for commercial, while epic fan tops 50 easy and can reach well into the hundreds.
Not to say I won't submit an entry or two, but as all of my projects involve 50+person development teams, a single artist is not very attractive and exposure is the last thing they will need by the time they start to take off.

It is easier to think outside the box if you don't even know you're in it.
I have a comic in which I am already paying an artist. If I win can I put the money towards that series or is this only for the development of a new series?
