Did anyone see this episode? Alan Moore, Art Spiegelman, and Dan Clowes did guest voices as themselves. The comic references were pretty hilarious. Too bad it was only the secondary plot.

A quick search on you tube found some clips. I'm curious what Alan Moore had to say about it.

Theres a lot of Alan Moore talking/interview stuff on You Tube, as well as just about any other "name" from comic books. Its nice to learn that I use the same techniques flesh out my stories about silly things as Alan Moore.

Comic Book Guy says something about Superman moving to Gotham City, then the dorky kid says "well that did happen." Comic book guy relied back "No it didn't. Jimmy Olson merely dreamed it!" then Bart says "None of this stuff really happens." Comic Book Guy bans bart from the store. Again. I smiled, but did not laugh out loud. Since the Simpsons is on the list of things to hate because their popular, right along with damn near everything else.

I'm thinking next year everyone can hate South Park or video games as a whole. Just the way I see the trends going. Also expect to see a lot of sci fi movies.

When Alan Moore started singing while reading Lulu, I almost laughed myself sick.

I don't hate the Simpsons because it's popular. I've loved it all my life. I jes don't watch it anymore because it's VERY for-mew-lay-ick now and jut plain unfunny. So I jes watch the old episodes and remember what it was. In my world it was cancelled somewhere in 2000.

I see this thread turning into why today's seasons of The Simpsons suck.

Actually, it felt like several things didn't "go back to normal" like they typically do at the end of a Simpsons show. It's becoming more common. I can't tell if it's because the writers are getting sloppy or because they just don't care... but I'm betting they just don't care. And you can be sure Marge won't be a millionaire owner of a gym franchise in the next episode.

I agree that Simpsons sucks nowadays. In fact, the rest of this episode kinda sucked. I wish they had devoted the entire episode to Comic Book Guy and Alan Moore.

I agree. Comic Book Guy, greatest Simpson's character ever.

I've watched some more recent Simpson episodes, and they ain't so bad as to hate them. Still potentially hilarious, but like said before, the formula is in place. Its also interesting to change stuff up like killing off major characters or making Apu get married and have twenty kids.

The sight gag of V For Vacation makes me laugh.

Alan Moore doesn't strike me as one of these comic book guys who takes themselves so serious. Yes, he does take his works serious, but he realizes that at the end of the day he is making comic books. People are going to look at it as just trashy silly books. I could read and listen to everything the man has to say. He seems to know his shit and realize that he's just as ripe for parody or satire as anyone else.

If I ever was in a position in comics, you can bet your ass that I'd use the Chalrton Comics characters in a swipe heavy parody of The Watchmen. I'm sure I've parodied a few aspects of his work in penis already, but nothing like what I would want to do professionally.

You guys forget that humor british people are famous for. If its one thing that Alan Moore loves, its being british.

Alan Moore was fucking hilarious. Art Spegelman and Daniel Clowes were humerous. Interestingly a scene similar to a scene from Ghost World shows up. In the comic, the girls go to see a comic book creator whose comics characters they identify with. When they meet him he's a geeky ultra dork, assumingly based on Clowes himself. Alan Moore speech about corporations ruining works followed by him singing and reading Lulu was fucking hilarious. I know I said it once, but that bears repeating. That alone was easily worth a million shitty episodes of the simpsons. That maus mask during the fight with comic book guy was funny.



There was a Family Guy style joke that put me out of the episode almost imediatly. The typical say something and then cut to somewhere else for a unrelated joke. Its come to this has it, Simpsons? Another one was also observed closer to the end of the show with a cut away gag. Over all those two gags put a big damper on the episode.

some funny lines

"Nothing beats living on wife support." "Marge won't beat me I'm the anchor that keeps her wieghed down." "My god.. the prophecy is being fullfilled." "I never had a hotel that trusted me." followed by hommers shifty eyes and stealing things. "I'll have nothing but all my friends and half of marges money."

Also funny from this episode was Jack Blacks character and his girlfriend, with their conforming to the non-conformist "look at me I'm cool because I'm different" cliches. "My purse is a lunchbox!" I laughed. Korean whats new pussycats humor was not lost on me, nor the Japanese hard candy with sea food flavors.

I would have loved more comic book stuff, but what I got from the episode was necter of the gods. The majority of it though was awful. When the story shifted to Homer trying to impress marge, the downward spiral was unlike anything I had ever witnessed. Then Alan Moore showed up again. I mentioned Spiegelman putting on a maus mask to fight the comic book guy right? That was a great joke as well.

And the Watchmen babies, V for Vacation is without a doubt the greatest sight gag in all of simpsondom.

I was disappointed by the direction the story took as well. The comic book store thing was awesome, but then it turned out to be a lead-in to a weak "Marge and Homer have problems" story. The comic book store plot line could have easily carried the entire episode and I'm sure they could have found a similarly ham-fisted way to get Marge to go to a gym so they could still use the Marge and Homer part. Although I would have preferred if they just didn't use that part at all.
