I was quite surprised that I didn't see an inspiration thread Here On DD. So, I guess ill start it up! what gets you inspired for your comics? your art? or anything for that matter. Is it music, other peoples art, movies books? what are you inspired by currently?
post it up! share the inspiration! its all good!
I'm also hoping I put this in the right place, art and literature.. >______> If not I apologize upfront to the mods and anyone reading this, I don't mean to be stupid. It seems like the right place to put this.
anyways,Ill go first : D
the art of FsC has always inspired me, always! so detailed and surreal.

oh! and hijame ueda! artist of the FLCL series and Q-ko-chan!
Thought we had one a while ago (maybe in the comic forum?), but it's cool to do again. I think it fits here, since we're talking about inspiration for both art and writing, not specifically comics.
From Life:
My roommates and family inspire much that is my characters. They are so quirky that I had to water them down to create believable characters. o.O
Literature
I am inspired by classic murder mysteries (Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle) and Shakespeare, especially the classic misunderstanding, comedy-of-errors stuff.
TV/Movies:
In the realm of anime, I am inspired mostly by Detective Conan and Lupin III. (They might influence my art too.) I think sitcoms (the type on Nick@Nite/TVLand) probably influence my character interactions and the funny/semi-romantic stories and story arcs. I get inspired by old adventure movies sometimes too, and nothing is better than a good mystery or heist for me.
Oh, and some news stories will spark an idea or two. Nothing national or political but rather like the type here.
My comics are about knives, rats, and rats with knives.
Definitally Ozy and Millie by D.C. Simpson. He's really the reason I started this comic.
Ex of his comic:
Real life:
What happens in my comic is really, really based off of what I went through in life.
TV:
Cartoons on tv always inspired me to be better. It's because of shows like DBZ and Courage the Cowardly Dog that I started drawing in the first place (DBZ mainly because it put me on a anime drawing craze for 7 years).
A lot of the other things just... come out of nowhere.
Updates Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday's (depends).

My different comics have different inspirations to them.
The Brood Knight series (both Shattered Hate and Shadow Nemesis) was more influenced of my highschool years... and the tons of anime I watched during that period (Yuyu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Saber Marionette J, BTX, Zenki, Flame of Recca, Evangelion, etc... etc... etc...)
My latest creation "MAG-ISA", is more inspired by much more recent situations in my life. (about 2-3 years back) Things like immigration-related angst, family instability and the big big heartbreak I got... etc... etc... etc... Its also more inspired by current events and various news sources... including conspiracy theories. Also has religious undertones into it as I've been from a hardline religious upbringing.
MAG-ISA however... is not gonna be as action packed as the Brood Knight storyline. As I wanna try different stuff like drama and politics and some humor aside from all that fight scenes that got me famous in DD for awhile.
As for music... mostly rock. You know... stuff like Slipknot, System of a Down, Avatar, Limpbizkit, Linkin Park, Slapshock, Greyhoundz, Cheese, COG, Cradle of Filth, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Soulfly, etc... etc... etc...
No matter how hard I try to make something serious, it always ends up comedic in some way so I usually focus on things dark and ironic or stupidly satirical.
One thing I immediately think of is the Gemini Killer in the Exorcist III was a big inspiration for Orlock's personality, hell the whole movie was a big inspiration for the whole horror part in general: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Dbz20o8YCkY
I forgot...The 1955 movie "Night of the Hunter" was also an inspiration for Orlock-related horror:
Also, the old silent film "Nosferatu"...
The campy 80's vamp movie "Fright Night"....
Plus the look of Tim Burton movies.....
I draw my inspiration from music
Just listen to a song a couple times and try to see what the artist is trying to communicate, then try to animate it into a short movie in your head (weird as that sounds), you will find that there are elements to your visual interpretation of the music which can lead to some truly great ideas
The only reason man lives his life is because there is nothing better to do
EVERY little thing on earth inspires me, but there are a few thingies that just influenced me, in my way of thinking, imagining and maybe even in my way of living in general. It's a long list, don't know if anyone is interested, but hey, I like to do it for myself, never really made a list like this. It's all in order, from when I was a lil' kid until now.
I didn't reply to this thread because I thought reading lists is boring. But if ppl use pictures as lists it's fun! So here I go. In no particular order except maybe general chronology.
FIGHT current chapter: Mother's Den
FIGHT_2 current chapter: Prime Directive
Thanks for introducing me to Thundarr btw (if it was you who posted that fan art of Thundarr awhiles back). I found and watched all 24 episodes. It was baaaa~aaaad, but strangely addictive. Like all 80's cartoons, lol.
Ookla is gonna find his way into my massive crossover FIGHT 2, that's for sure. "Bad but strangely addictive," fits my #1 selection criteria for fan characters in FIGHT/FIGHT2!

This thread makes me feel so left out and clueless because there's tons of pictures of what looks to be really awesome and inspiring stuff, but I don't know what the hell 3/4 of it is.
I didn't post the fan art but I did post the embedded link to the first episode of Thundarr via YouTube.
