I've a question......I've been here at DD for maybe 6 months and have made some friends and had pretty good results with my current comic on here...As is the goal of any creator ,I want to get as many readers as possible. So I've been thinking of branching out to other sites to get it out there even further...My loyalty is to DD. It's the first place I came to and did a lot of pre-emptive snoopin' before deciding to come here...The other creators are great and I'm really enjoyin' myself...So is there anything wrong with publishing/ posting to other sites? I would always post here first before posting elsewhere....as I said my loyalty is here...Thanks to anyone that answers...I'm just gonna' listen...err read. Jim Giar

Personally, I don't think it's a problem at all; just because you're putting your stuff on a site other than DD doesn't mean you're being unfaithful, just that, as you said, you're trying to reach a broader audience, and that's really what DD is here for anyway.
I don't have anything against mirror sites, in the long run if you want your comic to gain in popularity you're going to have to branch out into the world; but don't forget about good ol' DD when you're in a loft apartment smoking Cuban Cigars. : )
I mirror on Comic Genesis, but I don't update it as frequently as I do DD. CG breaks too often and just doesn't have the sense of community that DD has but it's a competent mirror. No other webcomic hosts have yet held my attention.
There's nothing wrong with it, so long as everything is amicable.
I mirror at Smack Jeeves but I dislike it intensely. That site is choking under the combined weight of the world's sprite comics and the world's boys' love manga.
I'm in the process of applying to Comic Genesis. It takes a WEEK to receive your password... jesus. Can someone tell me if you can host multiple comics on CG with 1 account?
Comic Dish? I'll look into it. Thanks.
Edit:
I don't like Comic Dish and didn't sign up for it. Only 1 reason: No banners on the front page, in the Search Comics page, nowhere. Not even for the Most Read.
How the heck am I supposed to stand out from the pack without a single picture? I'm not writing a novel, it's a comic.
I did surf over to Webcomics Nation, though. Ahoy, banners galore. I'm signing up to this one.

The more difficult CG makes it for me, the more eager I am to get into it. Because:
1. They do not allow copyrighted sprite comics at all.
2. The harder it is to enlist, the less likely there will be half-assed flotsam posted by 8-year-olds.
Edit: On Webcomic Nation
OK, here's my initial impression of WCN.
1. Convoluted inaccessible limited small forum. This is not going to be the main site for your webcomic if you care a lot about hobnobbing with the community.
2. Serious players. This site is free-for-all, but it's composed of mostly serious webcomics artists who are trying to earn some money from their work. They're attracted by the easy-to-implement merchandise homepages that WCN offers, etc. So you have truly stiff competition.

I don't think there's any implicit value of being faithful to any particular community, unless you and said party explicitly agree upon terms of exclusivity. As long as you value your little corner of Drunk Duck, then I think the obligation on all parties has been reached.
I certainly do post elsewhere, but I think the Duck treats me nicely, so I gladly post here as well. For me, the archive on Drunk Duck serves an entirely different purpose than that of Comic Genesis, so I have no problem whatsoever being part of two different comic communities.

That's kinda how I feel.....I'm seriously old school and have a very strong sense of loyalty. To those that have helped me get where I'm at...and will help me get where I'm goin'. I am however interested in promoting my comic and getting it in front of as many eyes as possible..Thanks for everyones input. You've been a great help. Jim Giar

I don't think that posting your comic on other sites would hurt anyones feeling, and having mirror sites it's a great idea, I've dont that, I have my main site(none here in DD knows about it XD), and I'm here in DD because I wanted to meet more ppl, also when I finish a chapter I post it on Tokyopop for example.
What's this? CG is more exclusive now? o_O
I remember when it took more than a week to get your password... Good ol' Keenspace
It's not NEARLY as user friendly as DD unfortunately though, and it does break a lot, but it includes less on your page: ie, they only have one ad space, don't have the tag frame we have etc. So you're more free to make things look the way you want -if you can get around the FTP and file structure and can do your own HTML.
I've always kept my Pinky TA comic mirrored up there. -Not always updating it as frequently though. I think you CAN have multiple comics in a single account now... The Wiki feature for your comic is pretty good too. All in all it certainly has its good points but generally it's not as easy to use as DD.

Well, actully wikipedia has some kind of struggle aginst webcomics now, recently it had been deleting a lot of webcomics entries, mostly I think it's because wiki wants all that stuff migrated to comixpedia, but comixpedia was down a lot of time, haven't checked recently, last week I wanted to update the info of my webmanga there, but it was offline =(, I'll miss the entries in wiki, they ereased mine after 6 months =( and I never knew until it was to late to back all the info

I agree. It seems much harder to get an audience over there.
I listed at OnlineComics.com, and I have a DevArt page. I go ahead and put my comics in DA too because I have a completely different audience than here at DD. Plus over at DD my other artwork (sculptures, etc) are available for viewing.
Considering the fact that Smackjeeves is my home page, DD is one of the mirrors on which I base my comic on. That being said, it's an important mirror as it helped me branch out a lot to a wider audience. I also have mirrors at Buzzcomix, Online Comics, KillBoredom and Spritechat. It's important to mirror as much as you can so people can take notice of your comic more.
And yes, Smackjeeves sucks at getting an audience because 60% of the comics there are shit. However, if it wasn't for the fact that it was my first mirror AND the html is a blast to customize, DD would probably be my homepage.
I started my comic by posting on MySpace in a my blog. From there I moved it completely over to pixelstrips.com, where it's still posted. A few months later Wes Molebash of You'll Have That pointed me towards humourousmaximus.com, a great little community of some quality webcomics who were more than welcoming.
A couple months after that (April of this year), I was approached by Th3rd World Studios (www.th3rdworld.com) who liked the SuperFogeys and saw some publishing and other potential in the comic (first SuperFogeys makes it debut at the Baltimore Con tomorrow! I'm so pumped!). It was actually their idea to take my comic to FOURTH site, Drunk Duck. Of all the communities I'm currently posting the strip to, DD is the most fun because of the access I have to my readership (something we're working on at Th3rd World). I don't know if I'm diluting the pool too much, but it's worked out for me so far.
My brother talked me into uploading my comic to share with friends and my parents. I started with a photobucket album but went searching for free space where I could upload it in an organized fashion. At a list of webcomic hosts, DD sounded like it would be easiest and fit me best, so that's where I am. I still upload my "raw" pages (not cleaned up, handwritten text, un-resized) to photobucket. I also mirror all my finished pages at ComicSpace, because not having a mirror is dangerous (in case DD explodes). I like DD the most, though. Friendly people, customized html, active and hospitable forums... My "mirrors" are just storage, so I don't lose anything. (I wouldn't have the patience to try to do any complete mirrors or be part of other communities.)
My comics are about knives, rats, and rats with knives.

Yeah, Wikipedia is crap for comic stuff. No, I meant the Wiki feature on the comicGen site that is integrated into people's accounts. It's useful! Up to a point...
I don't know. I edited mine a while back, and I thought it was cool. And then I realized that I'd pretty much be the only one editing it. And what's the point if other people can edit my entry for Dasien? They don't necessarily know what they're talking about, and I'd probably just end up cleaning up nonsense, should anyone actually bother to change the entry.
I suppose it could be kind of neat, but it doesn't seem to serve a purpose beyond having a description page. ...and I already have one of those.
