Something I'd like to see would be a "hide comic" feature that would leave your pages and newsposts uploaded, but remove the comic from displaying in your profile, etc.
For example, I have a comic (City of Roses) that's drawn by someone else. He's not drawn a page for a long time, but he says he wants to pick it up again. Out of respect to him, I don't want to delete the comic, especially if he comes out with a new page, but while it IS on hiatus I'd prefer attention to go to my other comics when people visit my profile.
So something that would preserve the comic while removing it (reversibly) from the public eye would be perfect.
WOW ! the border color idea is a great idea Fern ! but it should be tottaly INvoluntary !!! like if a comic has not updated in a fortnight it goes from green to yellow , and if it passes the 2 month mark it turns to red !!! and then beyond that if it goes beyond one year with no updates the entire thumbnail turns into a cute little tombstone !!! that would Rok !!!!!!!!!!!!1

But this idea is kind of weird... some comics choose to update once a month or really sporadically. This doesn't mean they're necessarily on hiatus and shouldn't really be forced to show that they are, just because they don't update too frequently.
As for a red border signifying "finished" comics... I think there's a difference between finished and on hiatus. One says it is complete and the other says it is dropped and incomplete. It would give the wrong message to say a comic that's been on hiatus too long is "finished".
Just giving my opinion. >_>

How about this: On your page for your comic's settings, you could have a section with fill bubbles, where you can select to specify your update schedule by specific day, days of the week, number of days passed in between updates, or just not specified. After you select one of these, you can fill in more boxes showing which days you update. This would be really handy for everyone, because readers would be able (on the actual comic's page) to see what days update. If it's by specific day, there could be a little calandar showing the update days, if it's by days of the week it can just say "updates m-w-f", etc.
Another idea I had was to maybe have a little thing kind of like Karma, where it shows how often you update on time (on the days you specify). this would let the reader know if the artist is reliable. This could also work backwards for many artists, so it's also a possibility that there'd be an option to hide this if you want to.
Anyway, the color-coded update stuff would fit into all of this, because then there'd be a way of knowing whether the person is not updating regularly, or whether they just have a big update schedule.
You know, the idea of a "hide comic" feature also makes me think of a few other things that might come in handy. For istance, an option to put your comic officially on hiatus (with some kind of indicator that the comic is on hiatus on the lists, etc.). There are lots more of similar options that would be cool, and no other comic website has ever had them.
