This weekend in San Diego Grey Shades was selected as one of the top 10 in the Comic Book Challenge.



Anna and I are very excited about this. I wish I could post her picture instead of mine as many are more likely to vote for her since she's a cute 21 year old girl. Now it's time to spread the word.

Cool...another of my favs.
Really, there were some awesome stories that didn't make it. Luckily I stayed and got to know many there. For some reason I missed hanging out a lot with you Jorge. Strange since we are in similar circles. You sat in the opposite room during the breakfast didn't you? I was hoping you'd be in though...I'm partial to your pitch. Not as must as mine but it's still great.

Too bad we aren't going to get together again for the next round. That was a LOT of fun.

BTW...I met some publishers there that I'd been trying to pitch to forever. It was an awesome opportunity, even for those great pitches that didn't make it. Hopefully I'll be able to see some in print soon.

Yeah. I had a hard time sitting still in the greenroom. I tended to keep wandering in and out... spent a lot of time going over my pitch on the balcony. I don't think we ever really got to cross paths that morning.

I love the film noir look that Grey Shades has. Nice, nice stuff.

Jorge - Thanks! I like the noir...in fact my original idea was a traditional Noir story but after doing some research it got to be too big of a story to do for the competition. I learned not to try to finish a historical fiction in a few months...too many facts you've got to go over. Grey Shades is a nice mix of noir & sci-fi with a dash of horror...or so I thought.

Next time I'll make a point of bothering you.

BTW...here's a photo of my partner on Grey Shades, Anna Wieszczyk. I think she's the perfect artist for my story and definitely deserves to be recognized. I wish we could see pics of the entire teams, not just the presenters.

I should mention I am posting a sample story for you guys, if you enjoy the concept, maybe you'd like to vote for it.

Congrats to all the Top 10. It was a really tough decision on the judges part at each level. I know, having been one of the few people to read every single entry that came through the door. There are several hundred people that I would be proud to have in that Top 10, and many of them from right here on DD. Thanks to everybody who entered and thanks to everyone on DD for being so supportive.

Oh, and Chris Rhodes, the creator of The Unemployment Adventures of Aqualung, also does a comic here called NECROMANTIC, so I think he qualifies.

Congrats to all of you guys. I thought all of your comics look great and I will definitely pick them up when they come out. Thought I'd mention my comic, A Ninja Named Stan (http://aninjanamedstan.com,) which also made it in the top ten. The competition is fierce this year, good luck dudes. Um...after looking at the list a bit more closely I think it might 80% Drunk Duckers. It's hard to find anyone in the Top 10 who doesn't have a comic up. Very cool.

it's not so hard... I voted a lot ^_^ I don't see the point of this unlimited voting though... I'd limit it to 10 votes per unique IP, ban known proxies and just silently disregard AOL ips (because they're unfortunately like proxies anyway). he... well that's me.
