I read this and I laughed. Even if a church did appear in a video game, it's a STRUCTURE. And the official word is that it only 'looks similar.' If that were the case, every church building that did not explode in inspiration and individuality would be infringement on design. I took Art History last year in uni, and lets say the church dragged on styles of art without change for decades.
The article also states that the church of England is against violence. But that isn't grounds to sue someone over infringement of a copy right that would have expired anyway. How many games have the white house blown to bits by aliens?!
What do you think? If the church of England did sue Sony, who would win?
I think Sony is in the right, and I hope they don't throw money at the church.
...yet the city of London didn't complain when The Getaway used the entire city of London as gamespace wherein you could steal cars, and if you really wanted to, shoot a pedestrian (NPC) in front of a church, accurately modeled, and splatter the poor NPC's brains all over said building?
Psh.
(The soap opera webcomic about nothing in particular.)
If I were Sony, I wouldn't have even apologized. Screw them. Yes, I jist said screw the church of England, but in a non anti-religios thing. Historical monuments appear in videogames all the time. PE has the Chrysler building filled with monsters and the 'real' boss (PE also still has the twin towers in it). How many films have placed their scenes in cathedrels...and someone always dies? Having it in a background should be the least of their worries.
It was a fun level to play, still the best game on the PS3 to date.
And its not even that great of a game! I gotta say, I've had more fun playing the newer Tekken online, but conversly, I've had a much better time playing Mortal Kombat over on my xbox. Sure, its on everything else, but it feels more suited for my box.

And what do you think that would have done for their marketing in Britain? Don't be naive guys.
I did have this in general discussion because it involves Sony and the church of England, but whatever.

The church doesn't support violent video games anyway. The religous part of Britian who plays violent video games-well, too bad for them if they suddenly take offence that Sony offended their church. Would the rest of Britian care, as long as they still got their video game fix-no.
That's not how it works. Once something like this gets into the news it blows up in their faces. That's just how it goes. The best thing to do is apologise and move on.
-edit- I had "blows Off in their faces" up there...
