I don't know who has heard, but there is a new Star Trek movie in the works directed by J.J. Abrams. There has been much speculation over the cast, and I was wondering, if it was up to you, who would you cast? The front runners right now apparently are Matt Damon for Kirk, Adrien Brody for Spock, and Gary Sinese for Bones. Adrien Brody is a pretty good pick, but I don't know how I feel about Matt Damon. I would go with someone more theatrical, I think, but I'm not sure who.

Wait... They're doing a Star Trek REMAKE?! Oh boy... We're going to be looking at an army of angry Trekkies here...

Don't get me started...

Gary Sinese is a good choice for Bones, though. Adrien Brody as Spock? I dunno. It might work.

Matt Damon as Kirk....? I really don't know about that...

I think they should bring back the original cast for the remake, including the dead ones.

I personally have never seen a Star Trek episode, but seriously, do you WANT to see William Shatner again?! Actually, all I know about Star Trek is this:

1. William Shatner was in it.
2. Mr. Spock has funny ears.
3. "Beam me up, Scotty!"

But seriously, Shatner is a fun word to say. Shatner, Shatner, Shatner SHATner.

The way I heard it, this was supposed to be a prequel dealing with the academy days of Kirk and supposedly Spock.

And that theory has been pecked to death by Trek fans for it's amazing lack of regard for Star Trek continuity. Spock and Kirk didn't meet until Kirk became captain of the Enterprise.

But don't let that stop Hollywood.

It might be fun, it might even be good -- but like Captain Archer meeting and beating the Borg, it doesn't exactly make sense.

I'm a huge Trek fan, really...Huge. I think I am the only person alive that thinks Damon will do okay as Kirk. Damon seems to get a lot of crap, but you know what??? I admit that I have yet to see a movie of his that didn't entertain me a little. I hope he is cast as J.T. and suprises the dilithium crystals out of us.

I personally can not STAND Adrien Brody and can not fathom how he has a career in film, but he does. So there. If I could cast Spock, I would go with...Billy Zane. I've thought he was beautiful for years and I think he would make a heck'ova sexy vulcan.

I think Gary Sinese will be fine...He's like acting salt...Sprinkle him in your movie--can't possibly hurt.

I'm far from a "Trekker" or a "Trekkie" but I've found some of the shows entertaining. But, oh Lord, let it lie fallow for a little while. Enterprise failed, and people are just tired of Star Trek. Let it sit for a decade or two!

I did hear about this awhile back. In fact, Jeremy and I even did a guest comic for Theater Hopper about it:

But I digress...

I think Damon could potentially do a good job of Kirk. I mean, he's not that hard a character to play, lets be honest. You just have to over-act.

I still think they should go with all unknowns though, that way people see the character, not the actor as character phenomenon.

I'm also doing that other comic "Space Waffles".
