Anything can spark an idea with me.One inspiring thing is cartoons. watching Afro Samurai sparked a few ideas, and The Boondocks inspired me alot too. Movies do as well.KILL BILL, The Professional, Ninja Scroll, The Last Samurai, a bunch of stuff. Most of it just comes from my mind. I think up different "what if" senerio's. Like,"what if" i was 'there', or life was like 'this' or whatever. And icome up with different characters like that. Also with the people i meet, and if they were characters in my story what would they be like? Nature is a another one, city life and scenery.also MUSIC definitly. hiphop, the blues, r&b, rock&roll, forign music. experiences, man just everything. everything is how i come up with my ideas i guess
I also have stupid conversations with people (dad, friends, brothers, wall)
*fading in*
person : It could be an army of I-died-a-stupid-death zombies !
me : Yeah ! and there could be guys who died in a pillow fight !
person : Yeaaaah ! They'd be dragging their pillows with their heads hanging at weird angles !
*fading out*

I have a variety of ways to come up with ideas. One is to just string together shit you think would look incredibly badass and awesome. Or you could just turn off all logic and start stringing together a bunch of idiotic ideas into something more complex and not so idiotic.
The relationship between sound and motion is how I think of all my ideas.
whoa... what does that... mean? it sounds deep, or maybe schizophrenic.
Well I usually don't randomly "come up with" ideas. I tell myself stories, although with my actual prose it's always the same latent themes over and over and so sometimes I feel like I just keep writing the same story.
Seriously, I wrote this one story about this girl with a lame office job, and she's eating lunch with ladies from her department and some loser guy named Ron starts telling them all about a car crash he got into years ago and shows them his scarred legs. And the MC thinks he's despicable for being so selfish, thinking everyone cares about his life. And she envies him too, for being that way. And then stuff happens and they become kind of friends, and she burns down his house for writing bad religious poetry.
Another story I wrote (this one was more than 4 years ago, so it sounds stupid I know) was about a kid who falls asleep on a greyhound and ends up missing his stop and being lost in Indiana, and he hitchhikes and becomes friends with a truck driving vietnam veteran named Ted, and the MC decides to forget about his parents and go to California with Ted and help him with his job. But in the end he rejects Ted for trying too hard to be his father, and runs away.
and there are lots more, just like this. They all have the same theme! taking on a father figure and then rejecting him! And then there's the "my father just died!" story I wrote like a month ago...! what's wrong with meee!! Yeah, so my parents are divorced, but why does it shine through so obviously?!?! *sigh!!* ohh well.
anyway...
dammit I didn't answer the question. oh well.
as far as my comic goes, there are... father things in there too. Lots of them. In fact the climactic scene of the whole comic is going to be when *someone's* father dies omg no! ~_~.
For me it's usually one line in a song, or something like that. For my current storyline, it was a line from Flogging Molly's "Queen Anne's Revenge".
My NEXT big story after that was from another Flogging Molly song (hey, they have a lot of pirate songs ), "Cruel Mistress". For those who read Grog, all I'll give away is that the line is:
"Till a voice called to me
From deep within the sea
Dry your eyes dear fisherman
Your ass belongs to me."
The whole idea of my comic is a result of me getting really stoned and attending mandatory chapel services in college. It's hard to tell, because I haven't gotten to all the ground breaking stuff, but that's where it came from.
Okay, I know this sounds weird, but most of the time, I come up with ideas when I'm in my bathroom.
Sometimes when I've thought of something for the chapter of my comic (in the bathroom), I'd just stay there and think it through.
That was where I usually come up with ideas.
How I come up with ideas varies.
Here's one:
I'd imagine my characters talking to each other about random things.
Then I'd try to see/figure out/decide on the characters personalities based on their conversations.
The plot comes later.
After I've got the plot down, I'd imagine my characters having conversations with each other that relates to the story (serious and not).
Then I'd try to figure out how their actions will effect the story line and try to come up with explanations for their actions.
Oh! & I also get ideas from watching movies, mangas, and TV series.
It sounds silly and cliche, but my dreams. I have vivid and strange dreams every time I sleep. I can smell flowers on the air, feel moss on the rocks, hear the sounds of native creatures. Depending on the dream of course. I always wake up inspired, with new ideas. It is my one gift and talent. I can describe every color, smell, object, artical of clothing from my dreams.
Dreams for me too... Or if some nice transition scene elludes me, sometimes it will come to me when I'm not thinking about it. Ooo! And in the shower. Lots of ideas seem to float around in the shower.
Also, admittedly, I find inspiration in the shows I watch and books I read. I can't imagine not being influenced by those things. They take up a lot of my free time. What I have been reading is way too much Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie. What I watch is mainly Detective Conan, Lupin III, and Get Backers; if you see any anime influence in either my style or story, it would be from those. (I'm not into any other types of anime.)
Plus, conversations in real life inspire any number of things, especially the comedic/light plotlines, not so much the violent/intense stuff.
A lot of more recent plot is stemming from the characters themselves or some minor thing that happened in the last chapter simply gets expanded upon.
My comics are about knives, rats, and rats with knives.
I try not to let books and stories influence me, and I don't watch tv so that helps, but I think it is just about impossible. I mean, if you're interested in something, then you want to explore it yourself. If you want to explore something, then you're clearly interested in it. =P I thought this was going somewhere but I lost it. ^_^
From talking with my friends about random moments to rping with some friends, it's really just hanging around people I can laugh with. Sometimes it's thinking too much and too deeply on a subject that usually ends up making me hate the human race. XD
I sacrifice virgins and the ideas are given to me in return.
Ha, bet you believed that for a second, didn't you? HVH is obviously a religious parody, totally inspired by Judeo-Christian Mythology. Deus, interestingly enough, began as an FF Fan Game on RM2K3. But it evolved so much I just decided "ah screw it" and made its own story.
