Everybody,
Well, I guess it goes without saying that Iâm really very, very excited about the release of Hero By Night #1. It will be in stores in March, and even though Iâve been working my ass off, Iâm hyper-excited for it. The daily HBN Diaries and the print comic at the same time have resulted in quite a workload, but it all feels sooooo worth it! Iâd really like to thank all my DrunkDuck brothers and sisters for your words of encouragement. It means a lot. And now, hereâs my idea on how you can help me help you; I can help you help me, and so on:
I look around the Duck and I see a ton of talented creators working on the Web, and I want people to notice us. I came out of the Webcomics world, and you know what? Iâm still here. But I want that recognition to go beyond the Web, for all of us. So hereâs an idea:
Pick up a copy of Hero By Night #1. If we make enough noise and create a big enough splash, we GET people to notice what a vibrant and exciting community we have. We link up the print comics and Webcomics world. The bridge is already thereâothers have blazed the trail. But I think we can really drive the point home, and strengthen that bridge here. Iâve been encouraging EVERYBODY through the HBN newsletters to order a copy though their favorite store. Please do! Or if you want to do it from the comfort of your own computer, hereâs an option:
Iâm a Pittsburgh guy through and through. Hero By Night takes place in âSteel City.â Not a far leap, huh? Well, Todd McDevitt runs New Dimension Comics, a kickass chain of six stores around Pittsburgh. Weâre putting a banner and link on the HBN DrunkDuck page so you can order direct from New Dimension, and heâll send a copy to you in March. If you go this route, there are two added bonuses for you as well:
1) EVERY order from NDComics.com will also get a FREE, limited-edition Hero by Night art print
2) The first 50 orders will get an ORIGINAL Hero By Night sketch card from yours truly. - Here's the direct link to New Dimension Comic's special offer.
So there you go. Youâve read the diaries, I hope you believe in the book. I know I do. Is it selfish? Maybe. But I really believe that for the mere price of $2.99, we can empower Webcomics and Webcomics creators, and make the noise we need to make the world sit up and notice what a cool thing we have going on here.
Yea, I'll be helping bridge the gap lol. I made an attempt earlier last year with a community called Comicdev which had the point of bringing print and webcomic news and everything else to do with eachother together but due to lack of time I have put it on hiatus. I do plan to bring it back though.
They sent me a bunch more sketchcards than needed, so depending on my time, I might just draw on all of them and make sure orders through New Dimension get a sketchcard of some kind. He's local so I can deliver them right to him.
I'd really love to buy it -- I can't make online orders, though...but I'll ask my local comic store if they'll have it or if I can coerce them into ordering it!
A quick question about New Dimension -- I'm moving to Pittsburgh this fall to attend UPitt, so I'd like to know, are there any of their stores in the city, at all near the university?? My boyfriend works at a comic store now here in DC and when we move up there (knock on wood, he hasn't gotten in yet but he should!) he wants to get another comic job. The only one he saw up there when he visited he said was "a little behind the times".
Pittsburgh has some great shops! Eides is down in the city on Penn Avenue, and over by the college, you'll find Phantom of the Attic in the Oakland -- New Dimension has a store in the Century III mall as well.
DJ ... good on ye for finishing all the work and the postings and the ... well ... all the stuff! It's not easy actually finishing anything, but especially an official comic. I'll be emailing in for a copy and hope that other DDers do too. It's all anyone can expect when they reach the plateau you have. Again, good on ye.
