So it's January 2007, meaning the WWCAs ( http://www.ccawards.com/ ) have just begun their nomination process. Have you signed up to participate? And if so, are there any Drunk Duck comics that you'll be nominating this year?
Here are the nominations I'll be submitting (Drunk Duck comics are in bold)
Outstanding Use of Color Atland No Need for Bushido
Inverloch
Outstanding Website Design
Starslip Crisis
Half Pixel Hero By Night
Outstanding Writer The Gods of ArrKelaan
Schlock Mercenary
Sluggy Freelance
Outstanding Long Form Comic No Need for Bushido Hero By Night
Inverloch
Outstanding Comedic Comic
Shortpacked!
Outstanding Fantasy Comic Atland
Outstanding Science Fiction Comic
Schlock Mercenary Cowboys and Aliens Crimson Dark
Outstanding Superhero/Action Comic No Need for Bushido Hero By Night
Outstanding Newcomer Hero By Night Cowboys and Aliens
I'd be shocked if "Outstanding Newcomer" didn't go to one of Drunk Duck newest comics. What do you think?
Is Hero By Night really a webcomic? I thought the Diaries version was, but that the actual version was only available in print this Spring?
Anyway I'll be putting my vote down for NNFB for most of those, as it's basically my favorite webcomic. Cowboys and Aliens is a maybe, and Shortpacked! i'll definitely vote for under "Comedic Comic".
"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."
-Henry David Thoreau, Walden
Thanks, CCS. NNFB can definitely use the support. I don't think it fits into many categories, though, due its bipolar nature. I suppose I should have said "Hero By Night Diaries." Good catch.
I was just a little out of time for last year's- I think they were just winding up voting when I started my comic. I've just submitted my nomination/voting thingummy, and now I'm gonna have to sit down and have a good think about who I'd like to nominate.
I think I'll say Atland for Use of Colour- I adore the colouring in that comic- and The Path for newcomer. Art and writing blow me away every strip.
I missed out on these last year for obvious reasons but I'll be doing my part this year. The comic got one in 2005 but I highly doubt with all the hell and not being anywhere near it should be it would even get nominated this year. Not a matter to me honestly - I get to nominate the comics I love regardless. :D
Hmm, I usually pass awards over completely, but I may have a looksee...
I'll nominate my Pinky TA nd Sub's Dreams in Synergy for the colour catagory, if that's allowed
The painted comics deserve a run there.
There'll be other DD comics I'd reccomend for the rest.
Aye, I'm assembling a list for nominations, including several DD titles. I think the Newcomer category is going to be hotly contested this year, there's been a *lot* of amazing new stuff this year.
It's getting more and more difficult to decide in general. Webcomics have become so professional looking. I remember staring our little comic 5 years ago on Keenspace thinking "this thing looks pretty good for a Webcomic... and we're in COLOR!" Now there are lots of Webcomics out there that could hold there own in the print world... and lots of print comics coming over to the Webcomic world. It's almost pointless trying to distinguish the two, since any regular comic can become a Webcomic w/ just a scanner, and any Webcomic can go to print with services like Comixpress and LuLu.
Exactly. Curse you all and you're compulsive self betterment! ;D Seriously- sometimes I think I'm out of the loop. It used to be that when I clicked on a randomly selected webcomic, I'd come up with some scribble done in MS Paint. Now while this can still happen, I am cintinually surprised at how often I come across a sturdy little webcomic with good quality art fairly solid writing.
There are actually a couple categories on there that I wish I was in a state that we could shoot for. Maybe Black and White, Site Design, Character writing or long form? Eh... Who knows.
I definitely am filling up my nominations list slowly but surely. I'd agree on the newcomer thing. It was pretty good last year but this year... man, I just can't keep up. That and the color category. I think a lot of people have switched over to color. I'd hate to see it end up a popularity contest because there are some great smaller comics out there that totally deserve a shot.
Maybe someone who knows a bit about the WCCA could send me a PQ with something to put on the front page? I'd like to make a newspost about it, but I'd also like to include something about how someone signs up, nominates, how long they have, etc.

I suddenly feel bad for having an MS Paint Comic...
Anyway, this is a fairly interesting way to find new comics to read, if not anything else.
...
And does anyone know when the Drunk Duck Awards are going to start?
woohoo! Thanks, NNFB - I was gonna try to send something once I got the facts straight but you beat me to it. :D
Looks like today the site says:
WCCA Site Said: It's about that time! Does everyone have their nomination recommendations ready? For everyone who's registered to vote, please watch your email for word from our Registrar, Mike Payne, on how to log in and make your nominations. If you believe that you should be registered and haven't heard anything within 24 hours, feel free to contact Mike Payne or Mark Mekkes and keep checking this site for further updates.
Hope everything works out for them. O_o It always sucks when things don't get started quite right.
Ewwww... They've sent the e-mails now and nominations are being done by filling out an Excel spreadsheet. Ack, it's like doing timesheets for work or something... Not very web comicy.
Ah well, I have a LOT of areas to fill out... I'll be choosing all Drunk Duck comics! ^_^
But I need help with some...
Any suggestions for nomminations in any of the fields? I can nomminate three for each... But I really DO need help...
Honest Reccomendations please, not just "please nominate MY comic!", and only comics that have been active during 2006! Oh, they should be hosted on Drunk Duck too.

Wow, thatnks for the nominations, ozoneocean! I'd suggest Hero by Night for action/superhero as well as Crimson Dark. Although Crimson Dark doesn't have a Superhero in it... can there be any doubt that it lacks action (same goes w/ NNFB )?
lawl ozoneocean :D I voted for myself too, as best newcomer (since my comic is less than a year old) XD I doubt I'll even be on the ballot, but that's all right. I voted for a lot of DD comics as well :3 Like Atland, and Rainbow Carousel. I was too lazy to fill out stuff for every category tho @_@
One of these days, I shall win the Best Anthropomorphic Comic award! I hope. I got nominated once but then trounced by Dinosaur Comics. Ozone, Fork was active for the first half of 2006. And Pinky showed up a few times on my ballot, I believe. :-D

Umm, I would have thought that Crimson Dark would fit better into the Sci-Fi category than Action/Superhero. It does, after all, have spaceships, energy weapons and cyborgs (who aren't called "cyborgs" so I can pretend to be original) :D
I'd suggest Freshmen for Superhero/Action, but we haven't seen past chapter 1 on DD, which is a shame.
Black Kitty's "Random Thoughts" is a nice "Slice of Life" comic on DD, and I'm nominating "Gunnerkrigg Court" for Fantasy.
