Has anyone thought that the new DD is a little too much? I think the yellow one that was online like, 2 months ago rocked..The new one is too dark, and it messed up my comic!! Has anyone ever thought of a style changer?
It'll never happen. Volte sold out to Platinum and THEY decide what's going on on DD now. Kiss user friendly interfaces goodbye! Corporations don't give a fuck about the little guys or we wouldn't be staring at this ugly ass forum.
I was expecting the worst, and this made even that look good. I don't like it when a site goes from user friendly to eye-raping overnight. It sort of pisses me off.
Come on, Rich. You're totally overreacting. Sure, the forum really needs work, but the site as a whole has generally the same stuff in a new layout with a whole lot more features for you to work with.
And you have NO idea how much control over DD Platinum has. As far as we know, Volte6 still gets final say on the things that happen here. Who told you any different?
This is a transitional time. Hopefully in a month there'll be a ton of changes and things will be more customizable. That's ultimately what they're working towards. I'm sure the forum will have a choice of color schemes, I know the templates will have a choice of headers so that it fits in with your design (generally).
But there had to be a starting point.
Look at it this way, there's no way Platinum bought something so it would tank. And if they just wanted to set up a webcomic site for their books, they already could have done that.
But healthy skeptisism is a good thing, Rich. But there's a fine line between skeptisism and cynisism. And just assuming things will suck only makes you miserable.

While you do raise a good point, I'm still not too sure on this whole deal. But since all of you admins are quite sure things will work out, I will stick around a bit longer to see if things get back to running smoothly.

We aren't sure. But we have faith in Dylan, and he has faith in Platinum Studios. That's good enough for me and several other people.
And any moron that thinks he sold out does not know him at all. Dylan has put lots of blood, sweat , and tears into this place.

"To a rational mind, nothing is inexplicable. Only unexplained."
To be fair what will likley happen is that about 80% of what is generally seen to be "wrong" or "crap" will be pointed out a billion times and it will end up getting changed or fixed, stuff that's bad does need to be pointed out, and pointing it out a load of times helps, but being angry and abusive in the process isn't doing anything but making you look stupid rich.
Of course you will. All intelligent beings dream. Nobody knows why.
Also, tell random people they are awsome! it helps!

But you see, we don't know him. To most of us, Dylan is just the guy who runs the place. He doesn't post much save for technical stuff, so most of us have no clue what sort of person he is other than a guy who runs a comic site.
And therefore it is in my nature to assume the worst.

Because they would buy a site and purposefully make the forum look shitty to twiddle their fingers and say "mwah ha ha"? What money could be made from making a forum look bad? I highly doubt they're evil for the sake of being evil. Calm down. Give it some time.
Rich, the user manual is a very good idea. We are a very small team here and haven't had a chance to dive into it yet. Lots of work and uh, programers and designers hate to write copy.
Dylan is working away at the forum design right now. It was a fairly quick, "Holy shit everybody hates the forum" reaction after all. So he's staying late and programing, eating cold piszza and drinking diet coke cause that's all we have.
I don't think Rich is being an ass, and I do agree that the new layout is actually MORE than a little... eye-raping.
But the admins seem to be doing their best to fix any problems.
I figure we owe them at least a little bit of time to try to get everything in order.
besides, all this yelling at them probably isn't helping them respond nicely to complaints...
The interface is a tad more difficult and hectic. But overall, I like it! The extra features and options are great, though they take some getting used to. My arguements against leaving some of my work here is in no way based on the actual interface changes at all. I love them. Volte did a great job of modernizing (spelling?) the site from the old plain grey and yellow, to the new 2.0.
Thanks and congrats!
What I don't like is that I do feel overwhelmed by a few options, mainly the "homepage". The forums could use some work (lol overstated), And the icons next to the comic's names on the main page are a bit hard to see.
I, myself am a little worried about the whole new ownership thing, but once again: Volte has always listened to us, and even if he's not at the helm he still has a huge position there, so I have no doubts that if Platinum started to make DD suck, that he would step in (I mean, come on, would you sit by as the whole of a few year's worth of work went under?
I'm just saying that I think the new DD is crap. (Please, no offense.) It's hard to manage. I posted a reply on one strip and it ended up on the front page of my comic.
>=( I liked the yellow skinned one.
