I tried to put off playing it, but got intrested when I had a test play at the local EB. To me it plays like a Mediocre version of Devil May Cry, with more RPG elements and lots of FFVII fanservice. Yuffie kicked ass.
Biggest Beef's
- Movement and close range combat felt way too clunky
- Forced sniping/sneaking missions
- Of all the characters that could have be playable..WHY CAIT SITH?! Why not Yuffie.
- Vincent can jump a 30 foot gap, flip off a roof and fill a chopper with lead as he flies overhead. However he can't jump over knee high rubble.
- Shaula and Shelke...possibly the most rediculously named characters since Xenosagas AWGS.
Best Parts
- Targeting system. Right on the money, better than DMC
- Weapons customisation system.
- Plot twist at the ending didn't totaly suck
- Yuffie, Reeve and Cid. Yuffie rocked...SO HARD.
- FMV's, but then you would expect that.
It's not a bad game, but it's not going to do for Third Person Shooters what FF7 did for RPG's. Hopefully SE are done running 7 dry and might acctualy give us the remake we wanted from the start.
"Mimarin" Said: IT WASNT EVEN THAT GOOD AND THE JUNCTIONING SYSTEM WAS RETARDED.
The Junctioning System was in FF8, not 7.
Anyway, yeah... I bought this game on the same day that I bought my first RE game (Code Veronica X). I played the first mission of DoC, then tried out CVX. Now, I'm hooked on CVX and I keep putting off DoC.
From what I've played, the game isn't as bad as alot of people are saying. It's fun to play, and the gun customization is GREAT! The jump thing doesn't make much sense, though. I mean, why do I have to find a keycard to get over a barrier that I can jump higher than?
And I do hope the enemies get more varied later in the game. Fighting waves of people in blue lined costumes over and over again gets kind of boring after awhile. Where is the COLOR?
Over all though, the targeting system makes things easier, which, depending on how much TPS games you play, is either a good thing or a bad thing. I also like the magic stuff they added in, though I find it irratating that I have to switch weapons in order to use different spells.
given the dark theme of the game, Cait Sith just seems out of place. When he appears for the first time, little cartoon stars appear out of nowhere. What's up with that?
Overall, I'd say this game is about a 7.9/10. I don't want to give it an 8, but i don't think it deserves a 7.5 either.
So I compleated the game, and now I'm trying it in Ex-Hard mode; which offers some real challenge. You really have to get good at using cover and sniping or you get cut down so fast. I'm starting to pick up the learning curve on it though.

I think it needs some lightness to relive all vincents emo moodyness. Besides which, the seriousness is far too rediculous to be taken seriousnly... Asside from when you finaly meet Wiess...

Look at what they have so far, an anime that is crap, a movie that is very pretty crap, and a shooter that is total crap. If they'd just make the damn remake, they'd make a lot more money than these spin-offs are making.

I don't think DoC is total crap. It's average.
And they've realised that they can make money on the spin off's and people will STILL buy the remake. Yay for the modern gamer mentality.
Yeah, FF7 is WAY overrated. I've never even played the goddamned thing and I can tell you it's overrated. You want the REAL best JRPG of all time? Chrono Trigger. Chrono would kick Cloud's ass.
Actually, in FF9, when there were hella Vivis at the ending, how the hell did that happen? Vivi was cute and all but...did they mass produce him after his death?

I have no idea.
But, seriously. Red XIII is actual the only FF7 character who has questions about his past still lingering around unanswered. I think there should be a game devoted to him.
Or, better yet, an entire franchise! Because Nanaki is awesome. And he deserves a series devoted to him.
Yeah. I think it was a mistranslation type thing. Aerith was what her name was supposed to be. But it was mistranslated to Aeris in FF7. Then they got it right in KH and everything else.
But the title has FF7 in it! I thought everyone jerked off all over the place at the mere thought of FF7 cause it is the best rpg in the world because it has overrated characters and villains! So they could crank out a million DOC sequels and people would blow their load to each one regardless of how bad they are.
yeah me too. The storyline for ffVIII was actually compelling up until about disc 3 or 4...I can't remember anymore. All the other FF whatevers didn't really do anything for me, I just played them because people always swear they're so OMG AWESOME.
