seems a lot of users have been using "the update hack" to get more page hits, it's kind of annoying. I did it once by accident, and I'm not sure how I did it (something like moving a page that is new and hasn't been shown yet below an older page, then switching it back I beleive). Is there a way to end this?
I can guarantee you that this was around a few years ago, when I was updating my comic. I found it accidentally and told Volte about it. The resolution was to hope many people didn't find it, haha. It seems fairly common now, if this thread is any indication. I'm not sure how something like that could be changed, maybe a timestamp of some kind?
Wouldn't that kind of practice anger your readers? They look at their favorites and they're like, "oh it's updated today!" and they go there to find that it's the same old page they already read.
Seems like you'd be jerking your readers around. I'd quit reading a comic that did that to me, or I'd just go a month without reading it and then play catch-up for all the real updates.
Yeah, I do that by accident about 60% of my updates. I'm getting better at remembering, though.
I go to set up an update to show up at midnight, usually around 11:30pm. Then I realise I forgot to change the date to tomorrow's. I go "ohshithoshit! I want to show up as 'updated today' TOMORROW!", so I rush to edit. Then I realise I can't change that in an edit, so I delete it and re-upload.
I only just realised that makes me show up in the recently updated list early. I felt really bad.
you dont need a timestamp, just a list of what files were uploaded at which order... if something is uploaded... it goes to updated list... if the last uploaded item is deleted it goes off of it...
I do not have a superman complex; for I am God, not Superman!
I think that the only reason this is a problem is because it's so difficult to get attention if you don't already have a fan base. Hopefully this will be fixed with the new update. Again, it's something I've only ever done as an accident
