But surely there are no rules of toast: I mean, isn't the beauty of toast that you can do just about anything you want with your slice of partially grilled bread and nobody can say a damn thing about it?
You may beg to differ and you're welcome to do so, but the rules of the toast sub forum are as follows:
1. Toast related discussion only: this may extend to anecdotes relating to, or involving toast, even made up ones, but we don't want to hear about your waffles or pancakes here.
Consider making a new thread for your new spread or favourite bread if they don't fit in with an existing slice.
2. Strictly no flaming: toast should on no account, be burnt.
3. Please PQ me with the details of any toast related RPGs you may wish to start on the forum before going ahead: toast roleplay is a sticky subject at the best of times.
4. We all know which side our bread is buttered on, so please don't do or say anything likely to put us in a jam with the DD admins: use your loaf on this one please people.
More if I think of 'em but for now, pull out a slice and get stuck in!
I never expected such a well-bread fellow to be so crusty about toast. I'm positively floured. What we knead to dough is rise to the occasion and roll with the punches, spread the loaf and hope the crumby sours just leaven us be.
To me, a meal just isn't a wholemeal without toast. I think I've mis-spelt something, but that's okay, rye?
Do you have those sandwich toaster thingies in the States by the way? I used to love them - it's basically just a way to clag an extra slice of toast onto your cheese on toast: why have one slice when you can have two, right?
Sandwich toaster things? Those appliances that fold shut to make a sealed toasted sandwich? Yeah, they've been around years and years. I figure though, if you're gonna toast something like that, it should be a little messy. Plus you just can't beat a grilled cheese sandwich from the pan, if it's done right of course.
I don't actually get to eat much bread so it's always kind of a special occasion when just have toast. I like it plain with eggs on top! Butter makes it soggy and jam is too much.

I've eaten way too many poached eggs that way - not all at once, like Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke - over the years I mean. What I like about the American approach is the poetry of your toast toppings; those eggs for instance could be Over Easy, or Sunny Side Up and probably others I haven't heard of, whereas here it's just an egg, hard or soft if you're lucky.
Mind you, we always think of American place names as much more exotic/poetic than our own when in reality we have a lot of the same ones. Near to where I come from in Derby there's an area called California but the residents never call it that and most of them probably aren't even aware of it. Instead they call it 'Stocky', while they chew on their hard, crispy fried eggs on lardy toast.
Ozoneocean Said: Burnt toast is good, especially with Vegemite.
Vegemite is the most important ingredient of toast.
A bun is essentially bread and I wouldn't exclude fillings from the discussion - in fact, I encourage them so yes, that definitely fits the bill.
When I was a kid my gran used to serve up 'toasted tea cakes' for breakfast: more or less a hot cross bun toasted and buttered, it's got raisins, sultanas and maybe mixed peel - I can still taste 'em now and see the morning sun casting it's dusty rays over the mangle...
Me too: Kojak ruled the roost until Starsky and Hutch came along. I still prefer Rubber Bands And Bits Of String to Don't Give Up On Us Baby, but I'm old fashioned too I guess!
