I was watching the Spon9e Bob special today and I wanted to get other people's opinions of it. I didn't think it was his best work, mainly because the cartoon was constantly interrupted by live action things. I did like some parts though, like P4trick gaining muscles and socks in a can. And don't say it's lame to watch Spon9e Bob because it's not and you know it and watch it yourself.

Spongebob is funny. Even funnier is watching my nephew's reaction to him. For us it's a harmless children's cartoon. However, I read somewhere that certain people have taken great offense to both him and his antics...

GREAT OFFENSE!?!?! What the hell it's an awesome cartoon, how could anyone be offended by that? Some people just want to get famous so they blame awesome shows of all this crap!

I get it-it's just that I don't want somebody going on this thread looking for Spon9e Bob junk and finding that. S'okay.

They didn't get married. It was a play of them getting married. I didn't even finish the thing, the guests got that annoying. Why Pr0ject Runw4y? (see below)

Insulting my use of #'s as letters for no reason whatsoever?

I guess I should clarify. In the wikipedia article (don't feel like linking it now) some evangelical group accused the sponge of being homosexual or something like that, and promoting such behavior amongst children.

Jeez... some people need to lighten up. Earlier some crazy minister on the radio was raving about how evil Halloween was when most of us see it as a holiday for children. I wish I knew why these people see "the Devil's work" in kids programs, holidays, etc...

Everything famous among kids seems to be attacked as being homosexual at least once. If you're so worried about your kids seeing gay image then maybe they shouldnt have a TV!

Anyway, I personally never thought spongebob was that funny... I don't know why, I just never got it. I preferred other nicktoons over spongie most of the time.

Yeah, there's the purple Tellitubby with the triangle thing on its head and then there was Noddy and Bigears... That was meant to be racist too because it had naughty golliwogs in it I think.
-Although on that score I'd think The Lord of the Rings is more racist since the only black people in it (people from Umbar) are all evil who worship witch kings. But then nobody gives a crap about that for some reason so I probably shouldn't either.

Still, makes you wonder why Blighton is picked on when Tolkien isn't, (or if he is, then not nearly as much). Is it because one work is intended for kids? Or is it because the people who complain about that sort of thing already dislike Blighton anyway, and don't mind Tolkien nearly as much?

--To the original post- I haven't seen the special, but I did use to watch and enjoy Sponge Bob, it was cool. It often had live action stuff thrown in, so that's not new, and it really added to the humour.

No, because replacing letters with numbers is annoying and immature.

As for Spongebob, ever since Stephen Hillenburg stepped down the show just hasn't been as good. All the episodes after season three just aren't anywhere near the quality of the earlier episodes.

Yeah but he still writes the episodes.

And my use of #'s for letters is the no reason whatsoever thing. Not the insulting. Sorry that that was not clear. Immature?-no it's not!

I am greatly offended by changing letters to numb3rs! We're here to discuss Spongebob Squarepants, the most mature subject on the internet, and you just had to make it an immature joke!

Anyway, as for the show - I like it.

no it's not! Yes this is all a joke.

I think the show is pretty good itself except for those time when you wonder "What the hell is this, Ren and Stimpy/Chowder/Ben 10?" Those are the things that bug me about the absorbent fellow.

Makes you think, doesn't it?

Not really...
Equatorial Guyana in South America is a pretty lush place. Pretty easy to grow food. Famine is unlikely there. Your example is stupid. Maybe you mean Equatorial Guinea in Africa? I'm not sure of the situation there, but with life expectancy at over 60 that seems fairly good for any country in central Africa.

No, I don't think that he is that much of an a55. I think that he actually wants something good done about the world and-wait, we are talking Sponge Bob not African poverty. ...so what else is there to actually say about Sponge Bob?

I watched some of the new Ed, Edd, and Eddy special last night. It wasn't bad.

So, what, you think everyone else should have to struggle to try to read your posts just because you think it's cool?

This is incredibly annoying.

Someone Said:
Yeah but he still writes the episodes.

Still, he has a much more minor role. He's just one of the many voices shouting out ideas that may or may not go into the final cut. The executive producer (the job he had before) has the final say on everything.

Really? Because a few years ago I heard that the EP was just an empty status title, they used to say it stood for "Enormous Penis".

I know there's a difference between EPs in film and TV, but I think that if you're one of the original creators of a series, you usually get an EP title regardless and keep it even when you've got nothing more to do with it, so you always get a slice of the earnings...?
I could be wrong though

Just going off what I read on wikipedia, this is true in many cases, but there are EPs who actually do manage the show (show-runners, as the Wiki calls them.) I assume Stephen Hillenberg was one of these, before he stepped down.

Of course, as the show's creator he most likely does get more say than most writers, but I doubt he's doing anywhere near as much as he used to.

...probably. There's a few episodes where the dialouge reveals a lot that we don't want to know about him. And Squidward too. Kids don't understand this and that takes away from the show.

There's no "obvious homosexuality", Atom is either joking or being a little silly.

Whenever there are two characters of the same sex as friends in any TV show or book these days, people will always think "Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay", it's just the way we are now. We've gone from being in total denial about homosexuality and being blind to it where it was, to being amazingly immature about it and seeing it everywhere, especially where it's not.

...because being childish about things is funny.
Thinking of batman as having a thing with Robin is funny.
Burt and Ernie as long term lovers is funny.

It adds a whole new, although wholly invented subtext to things that only those in the know can share.

And sometimes writers will acknowledge that and have fun with it- making it real in response to fan interest: Xena, Warrior Princess is a perfect case in point. Originally her and Gabriel were just a simple female analogue of the Hercules/Leolas team, but in response to fan interest that deliberately later added a homosexual subtext to the relationship.

I'm half joking. But even as a child with very little experience in the world, I always assumed Spongebob was supposed to be gay. And I was all "Oh hey cool a show that has a gay main character. What a nice step forward."

Then I found out he's supposed to be "childish". I guess I can appreciate that now that I'm older because I can look at him and enjoy it simply because how much I'd absolutely hate a real life version of him. And yet somehow really annoying people are fun to watch as long as they're imaginary. If Squidward wasn't such a pretentious douche I'd feel bad for him.

Also if he weren't a cartoon or whatever.

I was saying that as an opinion, not a fact. In my opinion, he thought of the fact that it may promote that idea as he came up with it. ...I just said opinion and fact each twice.
