The Zerg are VERY clearly a race of evil and WoW has the undead which are, again, a race of evil. The whole plot line with the Queen of Blades was to mess with people "See Jim not all Zerg are evil.....oh wait yes they are. SUCKERS!"
In fact if you really look at it the Zerg are just basically the scifi version of the undead. A scourge against all other races bent on killing or absorbing all life in the universe.
8. The latest comic showing up first.
I don't like the idea of a new reader clicking a link to one of my comics, then being faced with a major spoiler the second they see the latest update. It's BULLSHIT! It happens even without the homepage!
Sadly, it can't be helped. A lot of webcomics are like that. It's to it's easier for regular readers to keep up.
It's like they don't know the function of the little button on the right called "Show Latest" or something like that. Maybe the readers are dyslexic and struggle to read it? But then they wouldn't be reading webcomics in the first place. And if somebody's reading it for them why don't THEY click the show latest button? IT'S JUST A GOD DAMN CLICK AWAY!
9. Fan Comics.
Even if it was a franchise I liked I would still find it awkward.
It just wouldn't be canon and would probably end up with some pretty obvious alternate character interpretations as well as some completely faceplantingly stupid character heel face turns if an antagonist happens to be the fan's favourite.
Not to forget that if I wanted to see something related to the franchise, I'd rather watch/read the canon stuff.
10. "Gulpy" Vore.
Giant naked women eating people alive, then cutting to the people struggling to escape and dying in their slippery, warm tomb with their corpses to only become mush and make "the journey" afterwards while the woman burps and lies contented.
Being eaten alive and whole is a fear of mine I've had forever. And there's this odd thing I do as a reaction which is follow the story until the end in case they escape or at least their bodies are recovered. I'll always be afraid of it. And it's bad enough that it's used VERY frequently in movies aimed at kids. Let alone it being a quite popular fetish!
The worst I ever experienced this phenomenon wasn't in comics, though. But a short story. And that writer had the added horror of thinking it would be a good idea to make the two main characters become betrothed before being injested. Making them sympathetic characters and ending on them crying and hugging each other expecting their doom to be imminent.
HOW THE FUCK IS THAT HOT?!?!?!?
Somebody please tell me!
On the other hand, it tend to be a lot more at ease when the eating depicted is of the "shreddy" variety.
A lot of predators kill their prey before eating. Because the last thing you want is to eat something that can still cause you physical harm while it's being digested. It's the most natural and sane way to do it.
I don't like vore in general. But if I had to watch it or die this would be the kind I'd pick.

Actually, the homepage shows the latest page, but if you click the "latest page" button, it takes you to the next-to-last-page. So if you want to comment (or read comments), you have to then click forward a page to see the latest page.
You're right, THAT'S what it was. Yes, definitely aggravating, and I can't imagine why it was arranged that way in the first place.
I have yet to see a good reason for the Homepage feature. I believe that when you go to a comic's URL, you should be at the comic itself. Even Penny Arcade should do that, but they're so intent on doubling their page views.
Faliat there is no such thing as people who dont like furry comics.
Just people who haven't read Harkovast yet!
Seriously though, anthro type comics sure do get a lot of hate.
Thats four people so far on this list!
With regard to the idea of an 'evil' race, I think it really depends on what the race is. For a regular biological racewith free will, making them all evil has unfortunate implications, but I don't think this need always be the case.
A created species that are made specifically to do violence and evil could all be universally 'bad'.
(I am getting more and more convinced that this topic is just an excuse for you all to pick on me!)

Well, if killing baby dolphins so you can shag their mum (Whether you're male or female) and randomly attacking and killing porpoises and even HUMANS for fun doesn't make them evil, then Polpot must've been one of the cuddliest, wuddliest wittle fings on earf!

It opens with a number 5 on my list. And it's one great big number 12 that I've still to type up.
But don't let that depress you. I still occasionally try to read Deadfingers and even faved it despite it having loads of stuff on my list.
I have a habit of reading and reading things until I'm sure whether I like it or hate it. At the moment with that one I've been on the fence for months.

Ah, but if it doesn't have free will, how can the race be evil? Being evil is making a choice to do bad things. Fighting against the temptation to do bad things is considered good.
Something created to only do one thing without being able to make choices can't have the self awareness to take the good path and therefore is neither. At least in my logic.

-Furry comics, i can't stand most furry comics they seem creepy to me
(even though i like harkovast XD)
-Superhero comics, it's Don Quixote's armored knights all over again !!!
(still i like acrobat)
-Emo comics (ehh?? don't you mean dark or goth comics??) i hate those comics that seem to have a dark feeling, but their sole purpose is to attract the emo community with vampires, belts spikes and poorly designed goth athmosphere.
-educational comics .... no need to explain
-My comics, they always make me feel bad like ... 0.5 seconds after i finish them

wow, skullbie has insulted me !!, but in bizarro world, that means she likes me !!!

Remember, it has been a while since I played a Blizzard game, so I always assumed the Zerg were under the control of the Overmind. I guess what I'm saying here is that the undead and zerg are pretty much mindless. They are more or less controlled by something evil and are not really evil themselves. Then again, I don't follow those games much anymore.
I do remember that Blizzard made it so the orcs were brainwashed, not evil.
By that definition i should be most insulted since manga and gay comics are on almost everyones list xP To be honest I haven't actually read your comic, i was referring to misfile and an actual manga called kashimashi, which would have been great without the gender gimmick.
one genderbend manga i did enjoy was called sejou kouchakan no jijou though.
just kidding, i just remembered that comic book guy's quote, and by the way, don't even bother trying to read my comic, i know it's not your kind XD.
i also read sejou kouchakan no jijou, it seemed good to me too .

Just kidding. I give your comics a gold star! (Or a shiny green star if I don't have any gold ones left, but everyone knows those aren't as good.)
-Genderbend comics. These didn't use to turn me away but now I can't stand them, there's something so gimmicky and insincere about the way it's portrayed. (if there were one dealing with it seriously and non-fetishy i'd dig it)
11. Luminous, high pressure buckets of blood!
Where to start?
I won't! :D
12. This is a... TITLE! And it describes... THINGS!
"His/her/it's/my name is... (Change panel to show character.)Suchenzutch. He/she/it/I like/s...(show character eating from a bag) toffee popcorn."
This is basically a way of introducing characters. But not the only way.
They could remain nameless until they meet somebody else and they introduce themselves to them, or a passer by knows a rumor about them and whispers it to another passer by, or maybe a bad guy shows up that knows their name?
But no. The method used here is repeated over and over again.
For... Everything.
13. Democracy is corrupt. Monarchies are better! FIGHT FOR THE MONARCHY!
When a king rules a country/kingdom/district/mansion/house/tent/moose and said place is under attack I'd rather he die or give power to the people rather than send out armies to die so he can sit on a glorified chair staring down a hall all day for a few more thousand days.
My family's always been political. And I've never liked the idea of royal families.
But I don't think of it the same way as most. I actually feel sorry for the British royal family. Because they just happen to break the first rule of the universal bill of human rights. And they're from the country that wrote it!
Not to mention, kings, queens, etc tend to either crack under the strain, go power mad or get hated by their people for not doing what everybody wants despite the fact that everybody wants different things.
There's a reason why parliament caught on.
14. A pair that are either gay, lesbian, bi or heterosexual man and woman that are close friends always get together... Or at least try.
I've been friends with all four. Didn't even try. Used to joke, but that was as far as it got. And when you consider it, it wouldn't work better any other way. It stays happily platonic. And I'd like to see that happen more in TV shows and movies aimed at adults. Since there's an abundance of them in kids cartoons.
15. Posting up fan art as an update/ before the story has even properly progressed!
Cool! You have fan art! But where to put it...
You've missed the last few deadlines you made for updating. Why not there?
NO!
Your readers don't expect an art filler. THEY WANT COMICS!
Couldn't they just create a section of the forum for them?
Tubular! You just got fan art of your two characters... Well... The two characters you've introduced so far and are really the only ones that anybody has an idea who they are.
And these characters happen to be... Gay.
So what kinds of fan art are you going to get?
Yaoi fan art.
"Geez... I dunno... Maybe you should consider putting up the fanart after you've paired them already?" (See 14)
"Nah. I don't care. They know what's going to happen anyway."
You post the art. And people six years on will still be seeing it on your homepage.
16. Inappropriate Age Ratings.
"Aww. How cute. A nice little kitty baby playing with a ball of... Yarn... I think... I can't really see with this display picture. Maybe I should click on it and have a closer look? It's only an E Rating. What could go wro...."
And then you realise that the kitty baby is actually six years old, naked, with an erection and playing with a severed human eyeball dangling above his face.
The unrelenting HORROR causes your grandmother to faint. And for the next few hours after she wakes up she screams every time you touch her. Calling you a disgusting child molester.
This is why ratings need to be abided by.
And it's why i won't tolerate any comic that breaks the false security of having a rating judged by the actual author. And those that do that I like, I pester the hell out of them every time they do it until they get fed up and reply or change.
17. When creators drop hints in their user comments.
Seriously. Why even do it? All it's doing is creating spoilers. It's taking away any tension. JUST STOP IT!
Comment on how long it took you to draw the page, any interesting things that happened to you that week... How many times you've gone to the toilet today. ANYTHING BUT THE PLOT!
PLEASE DON'T RUIN THE SUSPENSE ANY MORE, MISTER!

Faliat I dont really understand how number 12 applies to me. I'm not wholely clear on what you mean with this one to be honest.
As for 13, when have you seen examples of things going on about how bad democracy is? I've never read anything to that effect in any comic, nor have I ever seen it on tv.
Most of human history had us being ruled by various monarchys, so if you do something in a historical setting, this goes with the territory.
Personally I am more annoyed by supposedly historical characters expousing overly modern views of government.
I had to reach for the sick bucket during Brave Heart when they had William Wallace suggesting he wanted to do away with the arisocracy.
I prefer things to be realistic in attitudes the characters have, rather then trying to make them give enlightened, PC attitudes that pay well to modern audiences.
I dont want every story I read to have a "Isn't democracy awesome?" tagged on as the moral.
With regard to an evil race that lacks free will, yes you are right that without free will they cannont actually be evil. However, they can still fill the role of antagonist in the story, which is what is required of them, without seeming to imply racism.

Faliat I dont really understand how number 12 applies to me. I'm not wholely clear on what you mean with this one to be honest.
It's in the first few pages. And although you've definitely made improvements since it's difficult to get past those first few pages. It discourages most people from wanting to stick with the comic to see if it gets better.
"harkovast" Said: As for 13, when have you seen examples of things going on about how bad democracy is? I've never read anything to that effect in any comic, nor have I ever seen it on tv.
It's not based on reality. It's based on fantasy and it's not directly pointing it out, it's hinting at it.
Those stories of the wise and supposedly kind old king and anybody who challenges his decisions is usually a posh, evil dude that nobody else likes and/or usually ends up killing. Including the "hero". But these are also usually very crap comics/movies indeed.
"harkovast" Said: I prefer things to be realistic in attitudes the characters have, rather then trying to make them give enlightened, PC attitudes that pay well to modern audiences.

I'm not one for that either. Nothing's ever perfect.
I twist it around in Mahlaste and Nervewwire by giving the people too much power in some places.
And as for being PC and appealing to a modern audience, I don't even go NEAR that with them. Three visually impaired guys walking into a bar owned by the eldest guy's... I've said too much. But it sounds like a setup for a really sick and insensitive joke.

Yes, but there's a lot of comics with those kinds of storylines that flat out call the race evil. Those are the comics I avoid.

QUOTE: I think it's easy to get bummed out when folks bad-mouth things we associate with our own comics- but to each his own! The Hub has a lot more dialogue (too many wooooords and not enough action!) and moves a lot slower than a lot of folks prefer. I mean, it's approachin' 70 pages with not one sign of a real plot! Or at least that's how I see it. Whatever. It's how I conceived the story, and how I think it ought to be told. It doesn't really bother me that it's not for everyone.
I can't speak for everyone who mentioned they dislike loads of exposition/pacing issues, but I don't think your comic suffers from this. When I say "twenty pages in and nothing happens," I mean story-wise nothing is happening. The character wakes up, then gets breakfast, then introduces the family, then goes to school, then eats lunch, then goes home, then I don't know what happens because I have stopped reading because nothing interesting is happening. The Hub opens with a brief page of exposition and then interesting stuff happens starting the second page. Not an especially good (bad?) example of "long drawn out boring build-up".
I don't demand huge action scenes at the start of a story; I don't even think that going through a boring day is necessarily a bad thing, if it is relevant to the plot (for example, to demonstrate how boring the character's life is, or to contrast it with what happens later, or for bookends or something). However, I do think the story should actually be moving somewhere by the first 15 pages; it's the basic idea of "the hook."
In unrelated news, I love superhero and talking/funny animal comics. :D (I refuse to call them furry comics. :P)
"Faliat" Said: 13. Democracy is corrupt. Monarchies are better! FIGHT FOR THE MONARCHY!
That comes from Ancient Greece originally I'd say. The Athenians had their little democracy and the Spartans didn't and they fought...
Also in Ancient Rome where there was democracy after a while and then there wasn't.
In England too with Cromwell, then Charles the second.
And of course France, King Louis the 16th is deposed... then later Emperor Napoleon comes along... then "Emperor" Napoleon goes away... Democracy VS Monarchyis in old and interesting political theme.
"zaymac" Said:
I don't really see why people are getting upset if people don't like a certain genre of comic that yours happens to fit into.
Yep. This whole thing is based on personal preference.
Some of the stuff brought up is more general (like PNG and the Home page feature), but mostly it's just stuff that one person happens not to like.
You can say :
"SCREW YOU! I'm doing it anyway. I don't care if you read my comic or not!"
I'm a very lenient person and I'm not a picky person but there are things in comics that'll drive me away and they are:
- Gag or random comics... (I, rarely, enjoy those. I like story driven comics than this stuff)
- Sprite comics of Sonic, Mario, etc... (it would be decent enough for me, if the make would create HIS OWN CHARACTERS AND CREATE A STORY OF HIS/HER OWN AND NOT DO THE SAME SHIT!!)
- Boy x Boy... Girl x Girl (While I like romantic comics every now and then, but there are stuff I don't like reading... you can tell, no offence)
- Huge pages (I might tolerate 1 or 2... heck 10 even but not the entire 193 pages of archive... I mean, come on!)
- Re-doing of a comic all over again (When I'm reading a comic for months and for some reason, the creator would nuke his/her archive and start all over again with better art.)
simonitro if they scrapped the archive entirely and started over I think that would piss me off, but if they go back and replace or improve early pictures with later better ones then I'm in favour of that.
Ronka Hooray for you! Someone FINALLY saying they like talking animals!
That is a blessed relief for me after all these furry haters....sorry, funny animal haters!
You may also have some medals.

In the end, the only thing that drives me away from a comic within 10 seconds is art that doesn't reach a certain level of quality.
And the only thing that keeps me reading a comic -until I bite "the hook" of the story/plot- is art that reaches a certain level of quality.
I'll use Harkovast as example (since he likes ppl doing that...): I will never read that comic as long as the author's banner and avatar continue to show that art which I speed-judge to be "below certain level of quality." If one day, he updates his banner and avatar to show significantly improved art, and if that art style grabs my aesthetic preference, then I probably would click on his banner.
This goes for all comics out there. And I'm sure this is how 90% of webcomics-readers surf for new comics to read.
As for the furry comics genre... Well, look at my avatar... But I don't think anyone is thinking of classics like Rikki Tikki Tavi or Charlotte's Web or The Lion King when they dismissively say "furry genre", despite such classics irrevocably molding their childhoods.

Well, there's the average furry and sprite comics. Although furry comics not so much. They can be done well, you know, when they're not eye blindingly terrifying.
There's yuri and yaoi too. It's just that the stories seem to be the same "I'm not gay." "What if I constantly stalk you, and forcefully undress you" "I'm not gay" "*SMILES REALLY FLAMBOYANTLY*" "OMG I'M GAY"...Or something to the same effect. Not that there haven't been a yuri and yaoi (Long story) or two I've seen that don't suck. But mostly I'm completely indifferent to the genre~
Sometimes black and white comics actually. There are some comics like that I enjoy, but mostly they kinda put me off....
Oh, and what hark said about the fanservice. Well, fanservice is all good and well, but if it's just where their clothes fall off CONSTANTLY, it just gets a bit annoying. Seriously, when something has me annoyed at naked people, they must have done something wrong. ):<

crocty, I get put off by black and white comics. It's really unfair because some are really good.
I wouldn't say I wont read a black and white comic but they have to try a bit harder to get me on board initially, as they are inherently not as eye catching.
