Okay, so this would have been up hours ago, but I got a rather interesting email. I've been offered a paid position as a colourist for a limited series of 4 issues that will be published through IDW (Transformers, 30 Days of Night, etc.) in November. However, I have to give them a few more examples of my work done by a pro artist, as in someone whose work has been printed before.
So I went to google images and found some inked pages not yet coloured, from Infinite Crisis Issue #5. I picked the page where Earth Two Superman smashes a car into normal Superman, in a tribute to an old Action Comics cover. And to give myself a guide, I pulled my trade paperback of Infinite Crisis off the shelf, opened up to the page and started comparing.
Can I just say I never even realised how many shortcuts clourists take, which then leads to a few mistakes. I colour a piece of crushed ground that whoever coloured the original made to look like a piece of Superman's outfit. But that was the only big one. Other stuff was little like making fingernails and flesh the exact same colour, blacking out eyes, etc.
This leads me to think "Am I too picky with this stuff?" because I didn't take any of those shortcuts. I don't like to make mistakes and I like to have everything perfect. Sure I make mistakes I don't notice, we all do, but I do try hard to make sure my stuff looks right.
