Hyacinth (and, in fact, the entire Renaissance Fair) was created on a whim. I wanted a fortune teller after seeing a silly episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air and the really cool crystal ball in Peipei's webcomic The Faction. I was determined to include a fortune teller, but I didn't know how I would go about it. Options included a birthday party or circus. (I had even drawn a fortune teller tent in the background of the earlier circus flashback.) I nixed the birthday idea because I wanted to get the ladies on vacation and was at that time already trying to plan some events for while they were away. (One was the attack on Toyo, but before I thought of that, I planned to write a romantic fling for Tristan -- with Meredith. Ultimately, he stubbornly refused to stay behind.) Then, I nixed the circus idea, because it might bring back memories for Kaida, which I didn't want to happen yet.

After that, I started thinking about where else we could find a fortune teller. The fair came to mind, and it was a great idea for me. I would get to draw everyone in costume again! And, in costume, Fudo could be on scene too. (Which would play into my plans to have him start tailing Kaida.) ^_^ Yuki's plotline was a secondary thought. When searching for good Renn Fair plot, I literally went over all the story loose ends and realized that a fortune teller was a good explanation for Yuki's cold feet.

I haven't decided whether or not Hyacinth will be reappearing in the story or if I'll be showing her out of costume.

Given the choice, I'd feel safer in UB world than at the Devon Legacy. *Points to cast list at right* Let's see, that looks like around five dead out of 37, and most of the "extras" are alive and healthy too. ;-) (And if the ladies stopped antagonizing people, they'd probably be perfectly safe.)

Hyacinth enjoys messing with people. I think I'd do the same (until someone sued me). She really has no purpose. I just had fun drawing her and all her crazy gypsy bling.

You know, I think I could be just as accurate predicting these girl's dark futures as any fortune teller =P

Would be like her telling any of my characters "I see death in your future"
