| usedbooks | Ms. Taney (whom I later named Amber) was not intended to recur. She was invented when my plans involved self-contained story arcs with no carry-over characters except my three ladies and the cat. But after Ms. Taney, the Hardings were invented. After them came Fudo, who was intended to be semi-recurring. When I brought back Jerry (to kill him off), I couldn’t help but wonder about Ms. Taney’s story... Her chapter was the only one that had no lasting impact on the story, no deeper purpose, a chapter I could eliminate and make no effect on the plotline.
When I later came up with Mina -- who also wasn't intended to recur, just one of three hip liberal arts students selling their old textbooks, she accidentally developed a crush on Mike. Inspiration then hit me to begin the next story with Ms. Taney, who was the perfect age to have an undergraduate daughter. (And it was fun to write her exchange with fellow divorcee Kaida.) From that, the details of her connections to the Thompson family just fell into place.
Ms. Taney hasn't played much of a role yet, but she might become more important once the mayoral race heats up. -Posted on Mar 30, 2009 |

That's so true. My original plans for the Ren Fair was to have Tristan watch the bookstore and Jiro while the girls were gone, but I had so many plot points I couldn't resolve. I decided to wing it, and when the time came, Tristan couldn't bare Seiko leaving again so soon. -- That led to Toyo playing cat sitter, gave me an excuse to get Kaida alone, ana provided a method to make ammends with her attacker... -Posted on Mar 31, 2009 | | User: JustNoPoint | | 5 | Lots of talk about this mayoral race.
