I invented Eric for one reason, to make Mike jealous at the party. He ended up doing a little more than that. He acted as a way to show the nature of love, a "perfect man" whom Seiko turned down because of her own fears/hang-ups, a real crush on a not-so-perfect man, or both. Later, I decided it would be fun to have *someone* run for mayor on the late Mike Thompson's platform (mostly because gold ol' Mike Sr. was killed during that campaign -- yay for tension and repeating the past!). At that time, I remembered the handsome blond do-gooder and thought this is exactly the thing he would do. It hasn't given him much focus in the story yet, but the mayoral race (and/or Seiko love pursuit?) story arc will be played out in the future.

It has been fun having Eric as a protagonist, even if he plays a very small part, because he’s so lucky, so wealthy, and such a winner. I think it's my nature to create underdog protagonists, people who have odds stacked against them, fail at most things, and have only the worst of luck. Eric is a refreshing antidote to that formula. He has everything going for him and is *happy.*

Which is why he doesn't get much air time in your comic ;P

Lol. Probably. He has too much going for him. I don't use Yuki as much as I'd like to because she is too strong. When she shows up (unless she is incapacitated), good guys win. End of story. Where's the fun in that?

QUOTE:
Stupid Seiko. Girls never want to get with the nice guy XD And this one even has money and supposedly good looks.

I don't think he's that attractive (Dennis the Menace or Richie Rich XD), but he's young and wears nice clothes. It's really a question of chemistry. As they say, "love is blind." Seiko isn't attracted to him.

QUOTE:
Which by default makes me wonder why he only focuses on Seiko.

Well, that's not really the case. The man dates. He's not celibate or anything. He's not ready to "settle" either. We saw him ask out another girl (whom Seiko pointed out). He's just curious about how Seiko is doing with her mysterious crush.

QUOTE:
If he hung around her more and was a really good friend I could see being that loyal to even just the idea of her.

It's actually good that they aren't "buddies," because it would make the possibility of "dating" more feasible. It's hard to ask a friend out for fear of irreversibly altering the relationship.

QUOTE:
And I'm sure if he starts becoming a threat to certain other individuals

Oh, Eric is definitely a threat to certain "interests." Part of his decision to campaign on the platform of an assassinated politician was so I could show his devil-may-care recklessness.

But they don't seem to hang out much and have not known each other long so it's actually a bit creepy. Maybe he's not as perfect as we think he is. Everyone has a few skeletons.

And I'm sure if he starts becoming a threat to certain other individuals while running for mayor we may very well get to see the darker side of Mr. Perfect here.
