Mike's design… Ugh, I hate that hair, but in my defense he was not intended to be a recurring character. When Fudo first appeared, he had Tim with him to handle Yuki, but it takes at least three people to make a 'gang,' so I drew a punk and just drew whatever hairstyle I could come up with (I wanted it to look a little different and adolescent). He received a name only as a joke -- that Seiko is so friendly she knows the names of any thug she meets. Anyway, Mike's lack of purpose is actually the reason he became so important. I figured that Fudo needed a reason to choose his cohorts. Tim’s was obvious, but I couldn't rationalize the boy. So, I came up with a story (paralleling Fudo to Kaida) and that grew. (That was also the first hint that Fudo at least used to have a compassionate side.)

I hate to play favorites, but Mike definitely tops the list for me. He is very fun to write for because he represents something inside of me, raw emotions untempered by logic or common sense. Mike is impulsive. He acts without thinking, says what's on his mind. To hell with consequences! Aside from being very emotion-driven, Mike is also very private. He tries to fade into the background and provides no details about his history or personal life unless he is seriously pressed. This adds to the emotional outbursts and makes him seemingly unpredictable -- so he appears to be a fickle turn-coat. But to me, since I know his inner motives, he is the most predictable of characters who loyally adheres to a strong moral code.

As a result, I love when readers hate Mike, and I love when readers love Mike. (We can all hate his hair.)

Whoops, JNP beat me to my reply! Oh well, that one applies to both of you. ;-)

I'm happy to distract you. XD I'm trying to get pages done too. I'm going out of town for a few days next week. But I have so much energy because I landed a job interview -- and ate a bunch of candy buttons!

It is. -_- But now I'm torn about who to profile next (after Brad, of course). I don't know whether to do order of importance or order of introduction. (In other words, Raidon or Ricky?)

It was slightly more logical when he was introduced, but it grew out of control! I have attempted to tone it back again some.

Mike's hair is a representation of his own illogical and seemingly unpredictable nature. But Vickie also knows the truth of it as well. He goes through lots and LOTS of hair gel XD

When I read his interests, at 1st I read "volunteering girls" heh

And don't worry, I have a lot of characters that I throw in as an extra... they get a name... and next thing I know I have written a story arc for them!

To set the record straight I don't actually hate Mike's hair, I just find it confusing. His hair! it defies all logic!
