| usedbooks | Of the three core characters, Seiko is the only one whose personality I really didn’t have planned at the start of the story. I had an idea that she would be a genius with a lot of "book smarts" and very little "street smarts" (essentially, a product of burying herself in studies to shut out the world). She was created to fill out the trio, as my roommates and I in real life are a trio, and I had a vision of the character dynamics involved. As the story went on, while the other characters' personalities were simply being revealed, Seiko's was actually being developed. From day 1, her reactions to things were simply stream of consciousness, rather than planned -- so I guess Seiko lives in the recesses of my mind somewhere. After I got a feel for her, she started reminding me of Nausicaa (one of my all time favorite characters and movies) but a few degrees less valiant and brave. Heh. -- Despite my adamant insistence that Seiko is entirely fictional, my roommates (especially Gael) tease me constantly and say I am Seiko. (In truth, I act most like Alex, and think like a combo of Tristan and Mike.)
Seiko's physical design was meant to make her look completely unsubstantial, unremarkable, and unfeminine. In fact, in my very first sketch, she looks like my brother (but with shorter hair). I also planned for her to be exceptionally introverted and uncomfortable around strangers (typical self-contained, hermit genius), but that didn’t happen.
Btw, I found this bio sitting in a folder on my computer. Apparently a few months ago, I intended to remake my bios page, and Seiko's page was the first (and only) one I wrote. I condensed it some and reworded it in places. -Posted on Mar 13, 2009 |

| User: JustNoPoint | | | Heh, guess I'm not the only one that saw Velma in her a bit :)
I never knew a guy named Tristin (or Tristan).
It was a girl's name on some show... I forget though. Ah well, it'll be 10+ years before that character ever appears at the rate I'm going :( -Posted on Mar 13, 2009 | | User: usedbooks | | | | Oh, and speaking of Velma, this was one of my first pieces of fan art. ~_^ -Posted on Mar 13, 2009 | | User: usedbooks | | | I check PW a couple times daily if I can remember. (I set it up before they set up rating filters. Maybe it would be okay to allow auto-approval now.)
QUOTE: She also kinda reminds me of Velma from Scooby Doo after reading her bio.
Ha! So true. Velma is cool. I've always been put off that new Scooby Doo ventures feel a need to turn her into a love interest or something. She was never meant to be... and neither was Seiko. Now I feel like a hypocrite.
QUOTE: Must be subconsciously wanting to maybe actually date some of these guys that she likes now. So she's putting on more charm and body language than she used to.
I thought it was more timidness than charm. Heh. Yes, she definitely acts strangely around young men. She never had any social life at an appropriate age, so she ends up acting like a teenager whenever in social situations.
I debated what pose to draw her in. This is appropriate if she was being "presented to the public," as Seiko is a fairly introverted individual and enjoys anonymity. -- Around her friends, she is entirely different, sarcastic, snippy, ornery. She just has to get to know someone first.
All my characters have dual natures in some way. For Yuki, it is a warrior and very sharp mind hidden in a super-bubbly man-crazed air-head. For Kaida, it is this very lonely, frightened lady quite hiding behind, well, all kinds of defenses. (And most of the others have weird complexities too...)
QUOTE: One of my main characters later is named Tristin (one letter difference) and is female.:
Weird name for a girl. Lol
I decided on the same somewhat randomly. I have known a few Tristans, but he's definitely not based on them (the Tristan's I've known have been major rednecks.) -Posted on Mar 13, 2009 | | User: JustNoPoint | | 5 | You know... you should totally check and see who all wishes to purchase your PW space once in a while :P
Now that you've mentioned how similar to Sally Seiko is it's all I can see. Especially in the way she stands. A bit more with not being good with others, kinda like you intended with Seiko.
She may have been designed at 1st to not look very feminine but over time she's really grown a pretty and cute look.
Must be subconsciously wanting to maybe actually date some of these guys that she likes now. So she's putting on more charm and body language than she used to.
She also kinda reminds me of Velma from Scooby Doo after reading her bio. The resident super genius. All you have to do is make it so that "she can't see a thing without her glasses" ^^
I have to say now, for the longest time I always thought Tristan was one of your female's character's names. Took me forever to associate it with Kaida's brother. Not that I thought HE was female. I just didn't put his name with him.
One of my main characters later is named Tristin (one letter difference) and is female. So it messed with my head every time XD
You have no idea how long I've needed to say that! -Posted on Mar 13, 2009 |
