| usedbooks | Yuki is based on my friend and former roommate Bethany in terms of her clumsiness, sharp (but often flighty) mind, strong libido, and love of "girly" things. Yuki was also inspired by the flighty blonde stereotype present in so many anime series -- most notably Mihoshi from Tenchi Muyo, whom we always say *is* Bethany (that’s also where Yuki’s complexion comes from), and Sonoko from Detective Conan for her boy craziness and ability to attract trouble.
Fyi, the name Ohtani came from the credits in an anime (either Case Closed or Lupin, I think). I think it was a technical staff member. I also saw the name Ohno in an anime credit, which would have been a little too accurate a name for Yuki. ~_^
Yuki is the character that most approaches "superhuman" abilities. My original plan had been to give all three of the ladies some kind of excelling supernatural abilities, but I got into the story and the plan was abandoned. They all have remnants of those planned "powers" but are now within the acceptable mortal threshold. (For the curious, my plans were for Kaida to be able to detect people’s intentions, Yuki having super strength, and Seiko being someone whom no one could lie to.)
Oh, and just for you, JNP... Yuki is on the tall end of the charts for average women, around 5'9" or 5'10" I think of her as "plus sized muscular" She’s not twig and no supermodel. She’s a woman who could crush a person with her thighs. -Posted on Mar 12, 2009 |

If Yuki and Seiko stood in front of Fenny and Sally, it would look like a funhouse mirror image of each other. (My girls are both a bit chubbier, of course.) Nope, she's the same ol' Yuki, but if you pay attention to scenes where she's "on the job" she is really very efficient/determined. (Traits inspired by Mihoshi.)
And you can bet the crime syndicate bosses were taken aback by that too! I actually can't say I noticed many strong blonds in anime back when I watched. I just told myself I wouldn't have any unnatural hair colors (without reason)...
It's nice to know I'm not the only one with a penchant to grab names from random areas. Or in some cases combine names and words.
