Through Arcane Eyes // Summary

Through Arcane Eyes has its origins in the Book of Enoch, which tells the story of 200 Grigori, or Watchers, that descended from Heaven to take part in the pleasures of the flesh. While on Earth, they taught humans the arts of sorcery, divination, herbology, as well as how to make themselves look more sexually attractive with makeup and jewelry and the art of warfare.

In addition, these Grigori fathered many human/angel hybrid children, called Nephilim, that had voracious appetites. Nephilim ate all the human's food source, and soon turned on their own mortal parents as a delicacy. Humans cried out to God, pleading for His help.

The leader of the Grigori, whom one translation refers to as Amazarak, is banished to a place "below the earth" with his children, while another angel (or perhaps, because of the nature of translations and the numerous names for a single angel, it was even the same one), Aziel, was bound hand and foot by the Archangel Raphael and cast into Hell.

It is this story that forms the background for TAE. While knowledge of the events in the Book of Enoch isn't strictly necessary, it is helpful for understanding some of the character's motivations on a deeper level. However, it's also here that I, MaRu, have deviated from the lost biblical story.

While the original text in the translation I have says that the Grigori descended to Earth to be with "the daughters of men," this story also includes yaoi/slash (two males in a sexual relationship or encounter), and makes the assumption that the Grigori that fell were mostly bisexual.

In addition, I'm using slightly more obscure names of these angels, strictly for aesthetic purposes.

I hope that the background informations was useful to you, and helps you to enjoy the story a lot more. ^_^
