Timeloss hasn't updated since October of last year, so we sent a pm to the author, and it will be on hold til s/he replies. We figured there was little sense in reviewing an inactive comic, so we moved on ahead.
Neither of us cared for this one, though it could've been worse (as Hark said, faint praise, but deserved nonetheless). I'm sure sprite comics can be done well, but I (and I'm sure I can speak for my reviewing partner) am yet to see it.
I also like how you point out the good in even the webcomics you really disliked. I find it better than most reviewers, who just point out the bad, ignoring whatever kept them reading it
Since this was my first comic, I agree with Kevin on fourth wall breaking. I wasn't enough mature at the time. Now that I have learned what pixel art, I decided to remake the whole comic in an original style. Probably I will work on the future dialogues after the remaking.
I only disagree with the "generic sprite comic". 98% of the sprite comics uses a videogame universe as a base for their stories, using original characters or not. Mine at least avoided it.
Anyway, thanks again... just hope I'm going into the right direction with my Blue Strawberry comic though.
Looking at Hark's pick, I just thought it was interesting that in the time it took him to write that whole screed about why he hadn't been able to make a new comic... he probably could have made a new comic.
Sigh, i feel sorry for sprite comic makers >> It's like they don't even try to draw, it's not that hard to learn. I worked constantly for 5 years to get the art i have today! why can't they at least try to draw?
Sprite comics are a hard sell on a lot of people... even the good ones aren't too good usually (ex. 8 Bit Theater).
I think Kid Radd tends to beat the curve, though.
In any event, a sprite comic really depends hard on above average writing to get noticed by a larger non-spriter fanbase but most don't seem to hit even near that mark.
