Well folks, here it is. What I've been planning to do with the Definitive Edition covers for some time now (but have lacked the time to do until now).
Shiri is easily one of my favorite characters from this story, not only in design but in her story (more on that, later in the story). However, she also introduced the second color in this otherwise gray-scale universe. Oh sure, I threw some red in there for dramatic effect and to mix it up a bit, but the blue that she adds really stands out. Also, blue is my favorite color. ;)
As for the other covers, I have the cover for the first chapter illustrated, but haven't had the time to really work on it much beyond that. I have the other chapters designed and sketched a bit, but nothing finished. I'm trying to see how well I can tweak them, actually.
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the cover and the chapter that follows!
Oooooooh me like! LOVE the shading on Shiri and the blood stains. The blue against the red makes a nice contrast, too. Everything fits together very nicely!
Peipei: Thanks, I'm glad you like it. This shading style will be used on all the covers, and I may throw it into a chapter down the road (like Chapter 6, which is the final chapter of this story). I think that Shiri is a ton of fun for effect shots like this, because she adds the new color into the mix all by herself.
exile: Yes, we did fix that problem. Thanks so much for helping out, I really appreciate it. Also, I hope you enjoyed dinner - Laura is an excellent cook!
Oh wow, what a drama-filled evening. Scott came over to help me repartition my hard drive (expand C and shrink D), and the rpogram errored on us! Now, I did back up the important documents, including all music, video, and comic files, but he says that there's a 50 / 50 chance that my D Drive has been completely lost because of the error. He and I are going to get together tonight to assess the damage (hopefully none), and try to finish the procedure.
Suffice it to say, I'm very nervous right now.
usedbooks: Thanks! I had the effects in mind while doing the artwork, but obviously couldn't convey that in the initial illustration. Shiri will be explained a bit more on the next few pages.
TheMidge28: Okay, I get it now...I thought it was a reference to something being limp...and needing some viagra. ;)
Darwin: Thanks, buddy! Glad you like it. I don't work in color too often (it just takes so much freakin' time), but when I do I try to go all out! The narration has teased to a question that will be mostly answered in this chapter.
This looks awesome in color! Much more dramatic, and the B&W was pretty dramatic!!
I can't wait to see Shiri's backstory. When the narration said that she'd been created, I wasn't sure just what that meant, but I am dying to find out exactly!
tthis looks great colored and finished! Well Done Trevor. The Bob Dole reference had to do with the left hand clenched fist. seems too small and as though it should be holding a pen...i.e. Bob Dole.
