Sophia and Selphi seem to rescue Lorice, the only witness to the events of the apparent bombing of the cathedral in the beginning of the story. However, in a land that barely has firearms (and therefore, little gunpowder) how does one get their hands on something with a little more “ka” in its “pow!”? Apparently, it has something to do with someone named Xen (more on this character, next week).
Things are being introduced here that will play a role in this story, and for stories down the road. The purpose of this story is, again, two fold:
1) To tell a kick ass prequel story about Sophia
2) To introduce the reader to the world that these characters have been living in
I’ve been rather distracted with other projects lately - one of which is due this week Friday (I’ll announce it after everything’s set, so cross your fingers for me), and the other is being pitched at New York City Comic Con (NYCC) next week. I’ve been looking forward to NYCC for some time now, especially since so many of my friends live in the area. Back in college, I used to go to New York City once every year – and I ended up falling in love with the place. It’s certainly a singular city, and I don’t consider myself to be a big city kind of person. Since I still don’t have a job, I’ll be on a tight budget – but I thankfully have friends willing to help me out and make it affordable. If you’re going to be in the area, be sure to stop by the Digital Pimp booth and say hi (I’ll be walking around the con mostly, but when I’m stationary I’ll probably be around the DP guys).
kuypol: Yup, there's at least another one of them snooping around, listening to the lead that Sophia and Selphi worked so hard to secure. Now the race is on to find this "Xen" person.
Jabali: Thanks man, I appreciate it. I'm going to be pitching a few ideas to editors (and a few ideas to artists for future pitches), so it's going to be a working trip for me. Also, I think I have an interview for an advertising job in NYC that weekend....
ghostrunner: Yes, butter-knife bearing fruit could be dangerous. Unless I have an excess of butter or cheese laying around that needs cutting. In that case, butter-knife bearing fruit could come in handy.
usedbooks: I assure you that the finger was not in the script - that was all Olivia. ;) I don't mind it being in there, though, as it shows how disrespectful and hateful the Bishops can be.
I do enjoy myself some NYC, and am trying to move there (if I'm able to land a job in the area). It's #2 on my list of places to move to, assuming the job's good.
krrack knut: That mook is also a bit on the dead side. :P
Warpedwenger: Eventually I would like to go to San Diego, but it probably won't be this year. Depends on whether or not I can land a job before the con to help finance the trip. I'll keep you informed.
harryq: Thanks for reading!
Peipei: Have you already forgotten about the end of the original story? I was trying to keep the blood down for this fight. There will be gallons of it yet to come.
Scorpious: Apparently so. As I told usedbooks, that wasn't in the script but I don't mind it being there. It would take too much to explain a different hand gesture, and people around the world tend to get what it means. It shows the character's defiance.
Doctor Shadow: Thanks for reading!
mattchee: You should totally attend, especially if you can land yourself a professional or press badge. It's now the second largest con in the country (beating out Wizard World Chicago last year), and there's a lot to do and see there.
patobarracho: Thanks buddy, glad you dig it!
armandoB: Thanks. Olivia's been working on her layouts, and I had to make a few changes to this page (she accidentally reordered some panels), but I think in the end it works out well.
amanda: Indeed. Not only verbally, but non verbally as well. :P
So "the bird" exists in this society... I wonder if it means the same thing. Maybe it's a salute, like "peace" or "live long and prosper" XD I doubt that, but it's funny to think about.
Good luck with your projects and enjoy the con. NYC is fun. I went there as a kid and then in high school. -- My brother and his roommate drove there one weekend for kicks (10 hour drive) walked around, and drove back in time for class the next day.
