If you want long awkward pauses, ask GWB his opinion about something.

If you want long awkward pauses followed by clumsy mumbled half-answers, ask him about the mistakes he made.

Last week, when asked if there was something he did wrong concerning the Iraq War, he said that he shouldn't have dared the insurgents when he said "Bring it on." He says it sent the wrong message.

Which is odd, in my opinion. Not that I don't agree that that was one of the bajillion mistakes Bush has made (the war itself being the biggest), but that Bush would ever apologise for talking tough.

Because he hasn't stopped or altered his rhetoric. He still threatens and bullies and has not once resorted to adult-style diplomacy.

So I can only conclude that his handlers have told him that that statement has tested badly. But then that doesn't explain why it took so darn long for him to answer the question when asked.

Unless, of course, he's an idiot.
