Talon Mane
The kelanari captain of the Mist Reaver, a fantastic steampunk style vessel that flies the skies of Hestonia. Talon is a quick-thinking and sharp tongued protagonist that has a long suffering first mate, Silver, who can see where her captain is heading and often has to pick up the pieces from his various misadventures. Talon also has a natty style in hats.
Silver
Talon's first mate, bodyguard, troubleshooter and ally. Silver is a complex woman and another kelanari, like her captain. She doesn't talk much about her past, but as one of the students of Master Rho's school, the rumour is that she is at least a well trained combatant that isn't above using assassination techniques to get the job done.
Jacob Scaro
There are some men born to be leaders, some born to follow. Jacob Scaro is one of those people born to serve, forever in the shadow of his mentor Kalon Rhadon. Jacob found himself an attentive student, but one not destined for greatness. When he upset a powerful Inquisitor in the Church of Progression, he was forced to flee for his life, moving from place to place to avoid the all-seeing eye of the church and the eventual hand of the church's personal enforcers.
Keys Leyland
Keys Leyland is the governor of Sullavale Port. He's a deeply paranoid man (not without reason) married to Isadora Leyland and the father of two beautiful daughters (Mercedes and Liana). Keys is rumoured to have ties to the Church of Progression and there are rumours that the man's monocle might indeed be a gift from that Order. There are further rumours to indicate that the monocle is tech-magis, and has the ability to see the worth of a person through their lies.
Isadora Leyland
Isadora Leyland is the wife of Keys, and has a habit of sleeping with any good-looking man who will pay her attention. An obvious foil for Talon's charms and unique nature (she's quite fond of kelanari) Isadora quickly runs afoul of her husband's schemes. This event will change the course of Talon's life as he knows it. Possessed of a sharp tongue and a cutting wit, she is fiercely protective of her two daughters and has a feeling Leyland is enjoying more than a game or two of poker when he makes his trips out.
Kalon Rhadon
Once Kalon was the prime servant of the Church of Progression. During the time of Fate's Hand, Kalon is drawn into a plot between rival church factions, an unwitting accomplice and more to many events that will change Hestonia again. Upon meeting a youth who has a very different outlook, Kalon learns firsthand many things about loyalty without indoctrination: this allows Fate's Hand to break free of his church-bound chains and begin to forge his own destiny. In the time of the comic, Kalon is free from the CoP and has his own agenda. He is a dangerous man, lethal in combat and possessed of an almost supernatural awareness that gives him an edge over his enemies. To Kalon, many of us move in near slow motion and this allows him to employ the church combat doctrines to great effect against most foes. Some have said he's cold hearted, almost emotionless and unwaveringly loyal.
Verity
Verity is an interesting woman. She had a hard upbringing with a powerful matriarch, Aunt Doria. Verity was taken away from her parents by the aunt and spent her life elsewhere, learning to be a high class escort; later on, when she ran afoul of the Church of Progression, she developed talents that include disguise, infiltration, murder and subterfuge. She has a vast collection of wigs, dresses, costumes and identities -- more than anyone else upon Hestonia. She is in many ways the perfect spy mixed with a dangerous assassin. Whilst not as talented in the actual techniques of assassination, Verity possesses knowledge of clockwork and applies that to her extensive alchemical skill to create explosive devices to do the job for her.
Morgan Eisner
A talented con man and trickster, Morgan is a good friend of the errant captain, Talon Mane. Morgan and he have pulled many scams in the past and have always lived to tell the tale afterwards. Talon and Morgan lost touch after the last scheme of theirs, where they tricked a wealthy pair of women out of more than just their gold, gems and daughters. Talon used his share of the money to do something worthy and Morgan Eisner plowed his back into his favourite vice: gambling. Morgan is a card sharp and it's said he is one of the best players of Jack Poker on the face of Hestonia. Keys Leyland has heard of Morgan and as an afficiado of the game has been looking for the man to challenge him to a card game to prove his worth.
Jon Regan
One of the crew of the Mist Reaver, Jon is actually another good friend of Talon Mane. Jon met the kelanari when a thug drugged the seaman's drink in a friendly game of dice. Talon saw the fellow in a bit of a bind and charged in to help, escalating the situation into a full on brawl that eventually ended up with everyone (including the captain) being arrested and detained for further questioning. The way that Talon tells it, however, is that fortunately for them, the guard captain was a pretty red-headed lass who he was able to seduce and free Jon and the others. As is the way with most pirates, the drunken brawl was soon forgotten (especially when Talon brought everyone a drink) and Jon signed up on the Mist Reaver the next day.
