| DAJB | First ... Many, many thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for us in the Eagle Awards. Voting is closed now but keep your fingers crossed and, if anything actually comes of it, I promise you guys will be the first to know!
In the meantime, if you like horror comics, you might want to click on that comic thumb over there on the right (top left-hand corner!) It will take you to a complete short-story comic called Speakeasy, written by me and illustrated by the very talented Wes Huffor. Think of it as a bonus for being such nice readers! -Posted on May 26, 2009 |

| User: Akki333 | | 5 | -Posted on Aug 08, 2009 | | User: DAJB | | | Lamiah: Hey, thanks - and welcome to Shades!
Alej: Me, too. Just think of all the traffic jams you could avoid!
Popen: It's what all the best dressed heroes are wearing this season! ;-)
Starwolf: Thanks! -Posted on May 31, 2009 | | User: Lamiah | | 5 | | Im really loving this comic! -Posted on May 30, 2009 | | User: alejkhan | | | | Ah, your dialogue never ceases to entertain! And, this page really makes me wish I could fly. :P -Posted on May 29, 2009 | | User: popenfresh | | 5 | | What a smart new outfit he's got. ^^ -Posted on May 28, 2009 | | User: Starwolf | | 5 | -Posted on May 27, 2009 | | User: DAJB | | | Coyote: Hey, welcome back! I spotted a couple of your comments, so I know you've been wading through the archives, but I'm sure I must have missed a few (you know how the DD Alerter is with regard to comments on anything other than the latest page!) If you asked any questions that need answering, please do feel free to ask again!
Matt: There has to be some benefit to being a telepathic psychokinetic, right? ;-)
JNP: Yup - they're all guilty. Just can't shut them up!
Cyberdog: Aha! Glad we could sort it out! -Posted on May 27, 2009 | | User: CoyoteLongshot | | 5 | Why do I get the feeling that they'll be reaching the tower at the same time as Bedlam? I feel another epic battle coming on...
Finally back up to speed... The comic's looking better than ever! Keep it up! -Posted on May 27, 2009 | | User: mattchee | | 5 | | PSYCHIC MISSILES?!?!?! Sweet! -Posted on May 27, 2009 | | User: JustNoPoint | | 5 | Stanley, I'm sorry... but the helmet is just out there XD
He must have made that with teenage super hero mentalities in mind haha
At 1st glance it looked like Ryan was flying in to hug Doug in panel 3 :P
And I don't want to hear anymore about villains talking too long so the heroes can get the upper hand. Cause the heroes here are just as guilty now! -Posted on May 27, 2009 | | User: cyberdog | | | Ah, thats what it was. The clock!
Thanks,
CyberDog out! -Posted on May 27, 2009 | | User: DAJB | | | Abt: Gaah! That's what comes of continuing to change text right up to the very last moment before posting! Thanks - page corrected and, yes, a whole box of no-prizes is headed your way!
As for Boo ... well, she'd look pretty sexy whatever she had dangling from her fist. (Ummm - that wasn't supoosed to sound quite as filthy as that! Oh Hell, I'm just trying to agree with you!) -Posted on May 27, 2009 | | User: Abt_Nihil | | 5 | There's one "need" too many in the sixth-to-last speech bubble. Do I qualify for a no-prize? ;-)
Boo looks totally sexy with that unconscious/half-dead guy dangling from her fist. ...what? -Posted on May 27, 2009 | | User: DAJB | | | jgib: My characters? Stop talking? I'm not sure they know how!
Khard: Heh - costume design was something I agonised over long and hard (in fact, I was still finalising most of the designs even as Nickel was having to draw them!) I resolved from the beginning that there would be costumes (I tend to think that's part and parcel of the genre) but, as a token nod towards realism, I did set myself the rule that no-one would be wearing their underwear as outerwear!
Cyberdog: Hmmm - not sure what's different. I suspect the clock tower may have been scanned in and inked digitally but we've had similar techniques before. Glad you like it, anyway!
Trevor/BlkKnight/Azarr: Thanks, chaps!
Thip: Thanks. And I can only agree. The artist (or, I should say, art team!) is doing a great job! Every page I receive from them is a source of delight. (Can't wait to show you all some of the later pages I have up my sleeve!)! -Posted on May 27, 2009 | | User: jgib99 | | 5 | | Great work as usual. But they might want to stop talking and catch the villains. -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: Azarr | | 5 | -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: khard12 | | 5 | Umm guys, did you forget that there are bad guys around you're supposed to be taking care of? Kick a$$ now, chitchat later.
Ryan's outfit looks great. Practical, yet still superheroish without having his undies on the outside of his pants. -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: BlkKnight | | 5 | | Nice -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: cyberdog | | 5 | This page is really good. Something is different though. Maybe the coloring, or the linework. I don't know. Aw, the comic looks great.
Cyberdog out! -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: thip | | | | The young greenhorns leading their scarred veteran seniors into battle instead of the other (usual) way around - this is good writin', m'man. And long overdue kudos to your artist - that last panel MOVES! -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: DAJB | | | Adam: Thanks - hope you enjoy Speakeasy!
Midge: Thanks. We do what we can!
Peipei: Well, that's you and Ryan convinced! Hope you're right. For Ryan's sake!
Azu: Yup - very Adam Strange!
Hero/Net/Lance: Thanks, guys!
Darius/usedbooks: Heh - don't worry. Boo's not letting slip any secrets here. Way back in Chapter 9 (?) Bedlam told Dominion that he knew the dagger was "in a dungeon in a tower" and would be retrieving it himself.
Ryu: Thanks - and welcome to Shades!
Doc: Yup - he's clearly not wholly signed up for the cause yet, but we've got him into the air, so that's a big step in the right direction!
Tantz: Hey, if the Queen thinks the Tower is safe enough for the Crown Jewels, surely it's safe enough for one measley old dagger ... And, besides, Boo has no pockets! ;-)
SoItBegins: I bet those chords continue into a really upbeat chorus, if only we could find the full sheet music! ;-)
Flup: Thanks! I did consider setting the time on the clock to mirror Watchmen's doomsday clock. But, after the movie came out, I decided that type of reference would be a little too obvious!
Lem: Ah, so you're the mysterious figure we've seen lurking around in the shadows over there! Hope you enjoyed Speakeasy!
Ghost: Hey, thanks. We're going to need it! -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: Adam Black | | 5 | | Great stuff! Gonna go check out Speakeasy now. -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: TheMidge28 | | 5 | fantastic new page.
love angles chosen and the dialogue is well written. -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: Peipei | | 5 | | Becky's alive I tell you xD. I was like 99.9999999% sure of that :3. -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: Net | | 5 | -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: AzuJOD | | 5 | | I like Ryan's outfit. Very retro-futuristic. -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: Hero | | 5 | -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: usedbooks | | 5 | | They should've used the cone of silence. -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: Darius Drake | | 5 | | Saying it like that... is Boo thinking straight? -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: Doctor Shadow | | 5 | | Gorgeously done, nice to see Doug back and flying! -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: Tantz Aerine | | 5 | | And why does she leave important trinkets lying about? *shakes head* Those things should be destroyed or forever carried on one's person. XD -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: SoItBegins | | 5 | | Dun dun DUNNNN!! -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: Flup | | 5 | I shall go and look at Speakeasy =)
I like the clock in panel 5! -Posted on May 26, 2009 | | User: Lemniskate | | 5 | Very cool costume!
And for a coincidence, I just found Speakeasy yesterday while hanging around the BVC site :) -Posted on May 26, 2009 |
