Shades was always intended to be read as a "graphic novel" with a proper beginning, middle and end. In fact, that was part of the reason why I wrote the script for the entire story before even starting to look for an artist! And, yeah - I'm afraid that end is almost in sight now. Timing aside, at least this should mean you can enjoy a "proper" ending and not just wonder why it's stopped updating one day!

Abt: Ha! You should be ashamed of yourself for that remark (and I should be even more ashamed for finding it funny!) And, yeah, Lovecraft makes sense. After all, it would take a pretty twisted mind to put a near-naked teenage girl and a tentacle monster in the same panel, wouldn't it? What's that you say? It's a staple genre of a certain type of Japanese manga? Well, I never! What will they think of next! ;-)
SoItBegins: Yup - two thousand! You have to remember, Bedlam and the Shaman belong to an order which is over five thousand years old. They survived the arrival of the Celts in Britain by passing themselves off as Druids, but the Roman conquest stripped them of even that degree of control. (Remember this flashback?) Last week it was JustNoPoint and the quailings, now it's you and the lures. I think I was wrong to suggest we could start a line of demon-themed action figures. Clearly what we need are plushies!
Coyote: You missed a few! Let's not forget that Starflare and Starflower are also out for the count; Boo is being over-run by Bedlam's acolytes; Doug and Ryan are engaged in battle over a nuclear power station; and Stan and his family have just been arrested by one of Dominion's mercenaries. Damn. I'm never going to be able to resolve all that in one chapter ... unless I just let 'em all die, of course! ;-)
Azu: Well, you're about half right. No, come to think of it, you're exactly half right! Chapter 16 is a little longer than most of the other chapters (sixteen pages) and the epilogue is an additional six, so there are actually 22 pages still to go. By my reckoning, that should take us into July. And who wants to read webcomics when they can be out playing in the sunshine, anyway?!
