It seems Dagda(the guy who doesn't show his face) has found a new recruit in Meallan, so he opened a hole in the ground to take him to Haven(basically their base). By the way, it is because of that red eyed "earth-thingy" that the Nephilim are able to see all the action.
In regards to the question of how long it takes to fully color it instead of black and white, I usually take around 4 hours or so to color everything vs 1 hour just for the B&W. And regarding the elemental contents of farts, they contain methane, nitrogen, CO2, hydrogen, and sulfur.
