I can tell that it's a feather! I think this works, as far as fist pages go- it sets up a somber mood, and I think that's good. It will contrast nicely with the happier stuff later on and it also helps the reader feel sympathy for the character. As long as you dont make the following pages overblown and angsty, this page works very well in my humble opinion. Nicely done! -Posted on May 04, 2008
