Shirai- is a siren word, basically it's a soul-bonded relationship. It can be translated two ways. 'Soulmate' or in the literal translation as 'curse'. Siren's are cursed beings when it comes to love.
Sirens can mate/wed many times throughout their lives but they only have one Shirai. Naria for example was Shirai with Josem even though he is dead she will never take another Shirai or share a bond as strong as what her and Josem had.
