This is my first ever attempt at a editorial cartoon. Honestly before I was asked to start drawing editorial cartoons for my local paper I barely even read editorial cartoons, so I knew going in that it was going to be a major learning experience for me.
This comic is based on a local news story about the county office buildings being overcrowded and how there is little to no room for growth.
This cartoon is a pencil sketch scanned into photoshop with some basic rough shading... a technique I quickly abandoned.

Local Look Description: A collection of editorial cartoons I have been doing for my local newspaper the Highlands Today, based mostly on local news stories that effect local readers. Very few small papers still employ editorial cartoonists, and the ones that still do may not for long. The industry is falling apart and looking for ways to cut costs, cutting out local cartoonists is a fast and easy way to do this, but it is the wrong way, which some papers are starting to see. I hope you enjoy this local look into life in a small central Florida town.
