About a year ago, I posted a story in which Schwartz and Galanos (and I) nerdily displayed complete reverence for Indiana Jones and Harrison Ford, which coincided with the release of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (which I love, no matter what all the critics say). So, with a new Star Trek movie in theaters at the present (which I also loved, aside from all the planet destroying shenanigans), I thought it was appropriate to include a similar tribute to Captain Kirk and the man himself, William Shatner. Boy, you don't know how much I revere William Shatner. It's probably unhealthy. It's so bad that I had a dream once that he died, was convinced it was real, and woke up in tears.

If you haven't guessed it or just are not very familiar with Star Trek, this storyline is a riff on a classic episode called "Devil in the Dark." The Lego rock monsters and miners presented an excellent (but twisted) parallel to that story.

There's one comic left in this storyline, and then I still have to shoot and post the now less and less appropriately-named 200th comic. And after that, I'm gonna shoot one of the three storylines wrestling with each other for first in line in my head. Here's a clue about what's ahead: One ties into an overall plot arc, although you won't know it right away; one goes back to my favorite plot device of including legendary cryptids and other odd phenomenon; and one features more of Lego's 2009 product line-up.

Thanks for the Star Trek tribute! The original characters are still the greatest. If I can find some legos I'll do a lego story at my Star Trek webcomic :-)

FYI: My laptop is down at the moment while I await a new power cord, which I hope will arrive this week. Until then, comics are on hold. :-/

The horta. When I was younger I always refered to it as the pizza monster.
