I love doing these comics without any text in them. They appeal to the side of me that makes illustrations as pieces of art rather than comics in the sense that you could almost just hang them on a wall as stand alone pieces, but they also reflect one of my favorite aspects of humor in that they're always somewhat more subtle to me. There's nothing whatsoever that needs text for explaining in the image. To my mind they're a little more enjoyable. I also enjoy this one a bit more because I think it always shows through when I've got a good reference for something. In this case it was the shoe off of my foot. Strangely, people around town have become so used to my antics as I create and draw these comics ( And undertake some of my other activities. Although I admit I am nowhere near the strangest person I know.) that not a single one of the regulars at my local coffee shop turned a head when they saw me taking my shoe off to draw from it. Not even the person behind the counter made a mention of the "no shoes, no shirt, no service" policy ( Of course, that could be because I'd already gotten my drink and I give them plenty of money. ). You know you're becoming a local norm when you're sitting in public with your shoe on the table next to your coffee cup and a bag of art supplies scattered all over the table and all people do is nod and smile as they go to their usual table ( It's either that or I'm becoming a local insane person of interest, but I like to think positive. ).

And as you may have noticed, the format of the comic is different today. I did that trying to find a way to extend my supplies out a little more. On top of that, I've just found lately that I'm not using the entirety of the 8x10 panels I was working at, so I decided to switch to a 7x7 panel and see how it worked. And so far it's pretty good to me.

And for the folks who are missing out on being able to see the content on DD: The comic for today on DA

This is really cool, gumshoe.

You're so lucky to have a cafe where you're a regular. I had one of those types in Los Angeles back when I lived there... I really like the detail on the bottom portion of the shoe, it really shows your converse pride.

Man... I feel bad for the chicklet (thats what i'm calling him now) AND the shoe.

You should try and work your way from being a "local norm" to a "local Norm," so when you walk in everyone says, "NORM!"

...you know...

...like on cheers...

yeah...

I'll shut up now.
