I understand that this is rather sudden, but I'm afraid I can't continue making this comic.
Truth be told, I was going to leave after issue 10 was done--my last page would've gone online on October 31st. Now you know why every page was getting crazier than the last--I wanted to see this thing out with a bang. :)
However, a number of little things happened yesterday which (on top of the main reason I was leaving in the first place) have forced me to call it a day a little earlier than I had planned.
I'm really sorry, guys. If I had my way, I'd draw this thing for you forever. I really would. The last 18 months have been a lot of fun, and I've made a lot of friends from all over the world. Gene and Paul often say that Kiss fans are the best fans in the world, and they're not lying. You guys took me in like family, and treated me like a rock star--and I'm just some dude who sits around in his pajamas all day and draws Kiss saving the world! It's amazing to me. I send all of you my most heartfelt thanks, and my sincerest apologies for letting you down so suddenly.
So, this is it for me writing and drawing Kiss 4K. However, I'm currently working on a number of other projects which I hope you'll check out. Many of them won't be in print till next year, but one of them--a new webcomic--should be going online the first week of November. Keep your fingers crossed, though: I'm still trying to find a site to host it. I emailed the nice people at Keenspot a few weeks ago, but haven't heard back from them yet.
My good friend Ken over at www.kissfansite.com has graciously agreed to let me use his forums as a place to answer any questions you guys might have. So head over there and click the "KISS Collectibles & Comics" subforum. Look for the KISS 4K webcomic thread stickied at the top of the list.
Again: I'm truly sorry to end this so suddenly, but I really had no choice. It was the best option for myself and my family at this point in time. I hope you enjoyed the last year and a half of stories and excitement, and I hope you'll check out the other comic projects I'm working on.
Thank you for stopping by and enjoying the Kiss comic. Despite how it ended, this was a great experiment. My favorite part of it was the instant feedback you guys always gave me. Despite the current situation, I'll always remember the last 18 months as the most fun I've ever had making a comic.
Your friend,
Adam Black
P.S.: I should point out that I'm still going to take part in the live interview on Sunday. Click here for more information:

Adam, I understand why you left and think your Locus book is going pretty well. I think what so many people are upset about is that the story wasn't completed, and there hasn't been any word if or when the series may be finished. Like I said, I understand you have to do what is best for your family. Congrats on your own book, and hope it goes well for you.

I might cry...

My decision for switching from K4K to Locus was (to oversimplify it) this: If I'm going to draw a comic and not get paid, it might as well be something I own myself. While Kiss has been a lot of fun to write and draw, I haven't made any money from it for months now. Zero. Zip. Nada. So, I had to leave the project, which was a hard decision to make. This left me with a three-page-a-week void in my life, which I decided to fill with something I owned myself. That way, I could make money from it any way I liked. There will be hard copies of Locus available as early as January of next year. Not to mention all the other things I can do with it in the merchandising department. I do, after all, own all the copyrights to Locus, so I can do whatever I like with it. As for someone else picking up K4K--I really hope so! But I guess we'll see.
Dr Love at 6:43AM, Nov. 11, 2008
Is Kiss 4K going to be picked up by someone else? I don't understand what happened - Adam can't do K4K but can do Locus? Color me disappointed and confused...
Adam Black at 11:24AM, Nov. 4, 2008
Absolutely not! Locus will be online from start to finish, and you'll even be able to get your hands on print copies! Head on over there and check it out: http://locus.keenspot.com

you gonna leave locus at a critical junction as well (.\/.)?
Adam Black at 10:36AM, Oct. 31, 2008
Update: The Locus comic is online now! Check it out at: locus.keenspot.com I had a lot of fun with K4K, and I made a lot of great friends while working on this comic. I hope you guys check out Locus, because I want to show all my friends the kind of comic I love to do when left to my own devices. :)
Adam Black at 9:48AM, Oct. 23, 2008
Sorry this comic hasn't been updated yet, but you gotta admit: I sure didn't give them much time to find a new artist and writer. I wanted to, but life got in the way. Sorry, guys. Good news, though: While I'm working behind the scenes to get my new webcomic, Locus, up on Keenspot, I figured I'd give you guys something to look at while you're waiting. Click on my handy-dandy avatar there to go to my profile page. Once you're there, check out the new comic called "Locus Sketchbook". It's a random collection of art (both new and old) which I've done for the new webcomic. First page goes live tomorrow, October 24!

liam_ofaolain at 10:00PM, Oct. 20, 2008
Is this the end of KISS 4K or will someone else take up the reigns? spaceace76 has a point, I don't know who else could do it as well as you. I sure hope we see more cos this fight has left us at one hell of a cliffhanger.
twistedvincent at 8:09PM, Oct. 17, 2008

You will be missed here brother.looking forward to the other project!
Adam Black at 7:45PM, Oct. 17, 2008
Thanks, bro! Thanks to everyone for all the kind words. You guys are the coolest. :)
LoveGuns at 5:41PM, Oct. 17, 2008
well now thats a shocker! Ah Adam, im really not just saying that, but you ARE KISS 4K. Its hard to imagine someone else doing it, plus I really liked your artwork a whole lot. I was hoping youll take us to the ned, but what must be done must be done I guess. Again, sorry to hear that, still - you gave us some very cool stories and pages we all enjoyed. Wish you luck!
Adam Black at 9:21AM, Oct. 17, 2008
Hmm...I may have spoken too soon about getting Locus online for Monday. Lots and LOTS of work to do on this end first. Contracts to sign, webpages to set up...all sorts of things. I think I'll shoot for November 3rd on that. I'll keep you guys posted. I'm going to set up a fake webcomic link here on DD--just click on my username and check the list of comics I own. Locus will be included in that list, but it won't actually be hosted here. I'll just have a static page set up with a link to the acutal comic over on Keenspot. Sorry, guys. Kinda making this up as I go here. :)
shaneronzio at 8:44AM, Oct. 17, 2008
Rock on, Man!
Adam Black at 7:50AM, Oct. 17, 2008
Thanks, guys. I appreciate all the well-wishes, especially seeing as how I dumped this on you so sudden-like. I'm not sure if there are plans for someone else to take over the K4K story, especially seeing as how I had to leave it so suddenly. I have, however, given Platinum all my notes for the last two issues. So, if they find someone to pick up where I left off, it should be cool. Also: GREAT NEWS! I just found out that my personal project, "Locus" will be hosted on Keenspot! I'm currently working to get things ready. If all goes according to plan, you'll be able to start reading it on Monday! Locus will keep with the M/W/F schedule I've been sticking to on K4K. I'll bust my butt today to get everything ready for you guys. I hope you check it out and let me know what you think. I should take this time to point out that I'll be promoting Locus with the phrase, "Boobs, Blood and Bad Language", because this comic will have a liberal dose of all three. And you definitely don't want to miss that, do you? ;)
The Fallen Angel at 7:14AM, Oct. 17, 2008
Hey Adam, Sad to see it end like this. It was a wild ride. Especially lately. I hope Platinum will let someone continue on with this 'till the finish (if I didn't have three jobs and wasn't going to school, I'd volunteer to do it freely ;-) Best of luck. And stay in touch, cause I wanna check out your other work. Greets, Maarten

My first reaction? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Truth be told though, I'm amazed you managed to produce material of this quality on the schedule you had to maintain for so long. its sad the book is left hanging, but you and your family have to come first. Thank you for hanging in there for so long and producing such quality, all by your lonesome...its quite an achievement! Good luck with everything and don't be a stranger! YOU ROCK MAN!!!!
