So yea, even non-comic readers around me love your stile. ok I'm saying too much. lol -Posted on Nov 26, 2009 | | User: Jonko | | 5 | theorah, I think you have one of the most "ahh"-inducing styles on DD, probably on the internet. Please don't feel down about this, I think it just takes time for a comic to gain readers.
On a more positive note, I think this page is absolutely beautiful. There are no words, but you can sense the emotion. Great job! -Posted on Nov 26, 2009 | | User: Kira Ani McGrath | | 5 | | Yeah, I know what you mean. I think it's because a lot of people judge a comic first by the art, and then if they don't like the style or the look they don't stick around to find out if they like the story. I also think a lot of people are "art spoiled" in the sense that they expect everything to look super-shiny-CG-polished and just breeze right by it if it isn't. -Posted on Nov 25, 2009 | | User: Ushio | | 5 | Don't feel down! ;_; I'm also having a lack of faith in my comics at the moment so we'll just bring each other down, lol!
In a general sense I've found that if your work doesn't fit a generic 'manga' style then a lot of people won't even give you a second glance. That said you've got 30 fans who've read your comics and know your characters, which I would say is better than having 100 who go 'Kyaaa! That bishie's so pretty! X3' but couldn't even tell you what the story was about (yes, I am that cynical). It's for that reason that you can probably walk up to any Bleach cosplayer at the Expo, ask them what they think about Osamu Tezuka (hell, give them the Toyko Zombie manga), and struggle to get any positive responses.
If I was to say anything as to why you don't get as many readers it could be the epic-speed at which you upload your pages. Some people might find it a bit too much to keep up with which is actually nothing to do with the quality of the comic. Maybe a gentler pace would coax people in a bit more? Hope you don't mind me saying that (especially as I wish I had your speed).
