Some people are touchy about their names. Personally, I've always gone by "Kate". My middle name is Katherine, and I've been called "Kate" all my life. I hate my first name. *sigh* Why do name changes have to be so expensive? <:P

Name change depends on where you live. In some states, all you have to do is inform the authorities you're changing your name, and don't do it to impersonate someone or to avoid a debt. Of course, first have to be a resident of that state, so long run may be cheaper to save for whatever fees your local court charges.
