| Comments | | | Caliber | So I'm back (finally). Almost been, nay I think it has been over 3 months since I posted my last comic. A lot of stuff has been going on that has prevented me from drawing comics between family matters, work, and the such which I won't get into. All I'll say is it's been kind of bumpy and even to the point where I lost all motivation to draw at all. But now I'm trying to force myself back into drawing again and hopefully rekindle the spark I once had. Anyway...
For those of you that don't know, the comic is based off a Wii game that came out about a month ago (I think) called No More Heroes. Now this isn't a video game comic at all but I figured I would give my two cents on the game since I enjoyed it quite a bit.
To me, No More Heroes is a game that embodies the thing that are missing in a lot of games now; just pure silly fun. There are a lot of problems with the game sure, which game doesn't but to me it wasn't enough to turn me off to the game. We'll start with the cons, the graphics, although a different style then I'm used to (it was made by the makers of Killer7 which I never played so maybe it's the same as that) I think fit the game, however it seems like a lot of it was rushed in finishing. The regular hoodlum fights get repetitive fast, but usually the sections leading up to the bosses aren't that long. The boss fights are pretty easy as well, although for some reason all the women are a lot harder then the guys to beat. Finally some of the general in game aspects, like riding your motorcycle (which is bigger then any car in the game), seem to get glitchy like getting stuck in a telephone pole.
Now the good. I was shocked when one of the first words to come out of the main characters mouth was just a blatant curse. It's not like I haven't played any games with vulgarity, it just shocked me being a game on the Nintendo system. I didn't realize how vulgar/sexual the game really was, which for a depraved loon like me was perfect. The one striking feature is you are given a laser sword (the game is riddled with Star Wars references for any of you fans) and in order to power it up evbery now and then you must "shake" the Wiimote.
HOWEVER. This "shaking" motion, especially as the main character Travis Touchdown depicts (what a name!), isn't your... normal shaking motion. Doing this for the first time made me actually giggle outloud. I had thoughts running through my mind of some person passing by just watching me through the window horrified (more so because I was laughing while doing this) and having to explain to them this was a necessary action (Thus the comic).
The game is a classic anime like storyline, you're an assassin who wants to be the best, so you go through ranked matches until your number one, and each boss is some ridiculous wacky character ranging from a man who believes himself to be some kind of superhero, to a old lady who carries a cannon in her shopping cart that is about as long as a football field (without exaggeration). The game is also short, about 10 hours, which to me is the perfect amount of time for this game. It would've been better had the game been cheaper and there are no real secrets in the game with the exception of collecting shirts you can wear. There is some replay value as you do keep all your stuff the second time around and even get art work. And most of all, I actually found a lot of the story and dialogue pretty funny. So it's worth at least a rental if any of you are interested.
So with all of that said and done, I'm going to try to get back (and by try I mean force myself) into making weekly comics. So hopefully Free Jamm'N will get the kick in the ass it desperatly needs
