A while ago I read some other Steampunk original fiction that's floating out there in internetland and I've concluded that this comic is what happens when a guy that has no idea what Steampunk is tries to write Steampunk. To be fair I've only seen a few Steampunk-themed games and City of Lost Children when I first started this comic but I've apparently missed a few points.
If I had made a "proper" Steampunk comic Higgins would be the kindly industrialist protagonist/adventurer and Creature could be his sidekick. Of course that would make Cricket a villain though she's definitely not Big Bad material so she's downgraded to a scrappy mook. I'm not sure how good of a comic that'd be.
Oh, in case any of you missed it I drew a joke cover for the Devon Legacy Prologue, you can check it out here: http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Devon_Legacy_Prologue/index.php?p=571470

@oldguy85: Thanks! it's alway cool when people take the time to read through the archive!
@magickmaker: Yeah, it's taken me a bit to catch up with you too.
@Peipei: Yeah, poor guy doesn't have much presence does he?
@usedbooks: Dart uses the term "friend" loosely, he's kind of a bastard.
@JNP: Yeah, I guess in spite of what I drew for a cover image I actually was paying attention to the story!
@Warped: The problem here is that Dart doesn't know Ollie too well and isn't sure if he can control him like Cricket.
@amanda: Oh yeah, creepy turkey-- You just reminded me of how cool Wild Turkey is! It's my hip-flask drink of choice. Thanks for checking out Virginia's comic, I'm sure she appreciates it!
@Zephyrion: Thanks!
@khard12: That does sound like a good idea.
@Trevor: Hell yeah! I've always though Chicago seemed like a cool town!
@Freakenburger: Me, I have to strike a particular balance: enough caffeine to be coherent but not so much that I'm still speaking in a slow enough tempo to be understood. Personally I'd be more freaked out by how dismissive Dart is being about Dee being dead.
@chris_wastewater: Ollie has excellent taste in hats. I like Dart's hat personally.
@R_Cain: Ollie's a character that I was wondering if he seemed likeable. There's not a lot the seem notable about him in comparison to the other characters and he seems the least troubled out of them all. At first I was worried that he might seem dull. Enough people seem to like him though I guess it works.
LOL! Sometimes it's good not to know about your genre... If you were a bit more informed 'bout steampunk when you started writing CC, you would end up making just another copy of some known work... BTW, I like the two panels at the end, they look great!
Maybe you should have an alternate reality one-pager with Higgins as the good guy ^.^ I think that would be funny! And no worries - what sets you apart is that you aren't stereotypical.
So far it's pretty sweet. There's a festival this weekend called Ribs Fest - which, I imagine, involves eating a lot of ribs! There's also some jazz festival going on by the lake, so I have a lot of options in front of me.
When you're running from the police and headed home, they really don't need to follow you. :-P
Now, if she was instead headed to a secret location to meet Ollie or something, that would be different.
I don't read steampunk or really anything aside from modern day adventures or classic murder mystery. I think when any degree of fantasy shows up, I feel detached from the story.
These Hooligans remind me of young IRA gangs. The way they didn't mourn Dee is like it happens all the time. Don't read much steampunk. Dee and Ollie gonna hook up soon or both to shy?
