| cravingcontrol | How do you guys like the Predictor scale thing? Bear-N-Desert hilariously suggested it be re-visualized as Lalia's blouse, with various states of unbuttoning. I wouldn't be surprised if it just makes people even more anxious about updates than ever, especially since it relies on me to keep it current and accurate! I'm interested in your feedback!
I think this is the first double-sized episode without Lalia! Shock! How does it feel?

Really gave me the giggles. -Posted on May 06, 2008 | | User: TitanOne | | | | I don't know about the author, but I am now close to coming back to the comics world and getting my artistic act together, so it may not be much longer if you want to see me pinch hit again. -Posted on May 05, 2008 | | User: DFWRebel | | | ...wait. Take your time dude, quality over quantity, I may be hackneyed. Hence, chill, make them awesome, do it when you're inspired, you have enough fans to gain the breathing room to do that. -Posted on May 01, 2008 | | User: darrellsan | | | | Take your time, CC. I don't check in for updates anymore, I check in every other week or so to see what everybody has been arguing about and who's been calling who a bad name. Actually, updates are no longer necessary IMO. It's the arguing and bickering that's become entertainment now. Carry on! -Posted on Apr 30, 2008 | | User: cravingcontrol | | | | And I know the majority of readers are chilled out and cool, and a portion of you guys always rise to my defense, and I appreciate that, and I know you're there. -Posted on Apr 28, 2008 | | User: cravingcontrol | | | Okay, let me rephrase that, then. I don't FEEL LIKE drawing the comic now. When I feel like drawing it again, I will probably share it, for those who care.
That's the arrangement. You're the one who has to live with your own expectations.
I even made a little meter to help people manage their expectations because I realize if you are looking forward to something, it can be frustrating to wait. That's a courtesy.
Deal with your own expectations. Know that your preferences don't translate to my obligation. If it still annoys you, stop reading my comic. -Posted on Apr 28, 2008 | | User: heymelby | | 5 | | I'm uber busy too, so far i haven't missed a fat kid friday yet...so far. -Posted on Apr 28, 2008 | | User: cravingcontrol | | | | If you guys are thinking about CC and waiting for another episode, you might as well post some story ideas in the forum! I always read those and sometimes they inspire me to get productive. Not always, though ;) -Posted on Apr 27, 2008 | | User: cravingcontrol | | | Hi mattmatt, I am pretty busy with other stuff at the moment. When things change, the update predictor will reflect that.
morning, sorry I didn't get back to you. I might have deleted your message by mistake, because I couldn't find it. Feel free to get in touch again.
That said, as much as I really appreciate offers to help, often it just comes down to me finding the time to write a script, get my head back into that CC space, and so on. There are certain people who have helped out, notably TitanOne, but for the most part, I still have to be in charge to a certain extent. So as meaningful as it is that some people want to lend a hand, it doesn't necessarily mean it would lead to more frequent updates. -Posted on Apr 27, 2008 | | User: mattmatt1304 | | 5 | | TitanOne or CC I'm just wondering about if either one of you are getting close on finishing up a new page -Posted on Apr 27, 2008 | | User: morning | | | | i offered to contribute a couple of months ago and i got no reply. -Posted on Apr 26, 2008 | | User: Tommie Kelly | | 5 | | Great page, as always -Posted on Apr 25, 2008 | | User: Kreatos68 | | | | @ Morning: Why don't you ask if you can contribute? I just updated Aurora, and I'll be ready to do Lalia soon. -Posted on Apr 16, 2008 | | User: cravingcontrol | | | | Yeah sorry guys, I've just continued to be busy so I thought the predictor should reflect that so you guys can dial down your expectations. I, personally, think powerup could have been pretty good. It just seems too...lowbrow is a good way to put it...to me. The jokes don't do anything for me, they aren't clever, and the parody aspect was SO bad that I really didn't realize it before you guys stated it (and I'm actually pretty perceptive). It just seems needlessly belligerent at times, inserting "risky" subject matter unfunnily where it could have been really, really funny, and that kills the joke. Risky subject matter is great in my opinion, so long as it actually funny, or it makes a thought provoking point, not piss people off.
So states not-anonymous man.
Good comic, CC, art's good, humor's there, and there are lots of boobs- which is exactly what the typical slavering web-comic masses want. Keep it up. -Posted on Mar 31, 2008 | | User: jauntx | | | did we have a third world war already?
yeah MadTV blows, but I'm thinking i see some of the point now. MadTV sucks despite their efforts. PU sucks because of their efforts.
CC on the other hand may not be my favorite comic, but SOMEthing keeps me coming back.
Also, some of my favorite comics haven't updated in so long I'm wondering if the creators died or something. CC updates quicker than some of them and thats kinda sad. -Posted on Mar 31, 2008 | | User: Boss of Nova | | | | MadTV's lousy. Really lousy. -Posted on Mar 31, 2008 | | User: jauntx | | | glad I can entertain you, Hillside, it's what I live for. If you find anything brilliant in PU, I'm betting you think MadTV is the height of hilarity too.
k edwards, when there's a long time between strips, the comments about the strip have pretty much said it all early on, and continuing to talk about it would be just repeating what's been said. Thus, we talk about other things. -Posted on Mar 30, 2008 | | User: k_edwards86 | | | I'm not really sure what any of this has to do with CC anymore.
Anyhow, the comic is great CC. Its always good to see some development with Trevor and Jane, as I can definately relate to Trevor's plight -Posted on Mar 30, 2008 | | User: Hillside_Loafer | | | Jauntx, if you had any distance to things you'd realise that Powerup comics makes many people laugh their asses off, because it has many brilliant points making fun of any generic gamer comic. 70% of the laughs are from shadows completely idiotic comments and people being stupid enough to actually take it seriously. I bet shadow is laughing his ass off just as much as i do reading those comics. I've read through all of them several times just to laugh at the comments from people like you!
Thanks for making my day :D
Peace -Posted on Mar 29, 2008 | | User: jauntx | | | hmn....nope....sorry....considered what you said Boss....and....Powerup still sucks
I do understand what it's parodying, I get the jokes, I know what they're making fun of...
They're still not funny. The humor lies in nothing because there is no humor.
And I never claimed to be a huge fan of CC either, so I'm not upset they made a "parody" of it. PU just sucks. Period. -Posted on Mar 29, 2008 | | User: mattmatt1304 | | | | can't wait for it to move to "work in progress" -Posted on Mar 28, 2008 | | User: Boss of Nova | | | | YOU'RE THE BEST, ANONYMOUS DUDE! -Posted on Mar 28, 2008 | | User: Boss of Nova | | | I just think you guys are getting too worked up over a comic that intentionally has terrible art and hackneyed writing. Parody only fully works in the context that you understand what it's parodying- a parody can sometimes contain funny jokes, but you don't necessarily recognize what it's parodying- in the case of Power-Up, however, the humor lies in recognizing what it is making fun of: gaming webcomics that make terrible jokes. It's simply up to you whether or not you find the mocking of terrible jokes funny or not.
Also, getting into heated scuffles with the "creator" (Power-Up strips are generated by a lot of different people, not one guy) because of a strip that derides something you like is basically just playing into their hands. Take it in stride, like the author of CC is doing. -Posted on Mar 28, 2008 | | User: jauntx | | | that's the thing that gets me about it. it's constantly defended by the concept that it's mocking something else thus it's supposed to be lame? No no...
I have read many gaming comics, and several do suck. So does Powerup. It's just not funny. It's not that I don't get the "jokes", I get them just fine. They simply are not funny. Satire and parody still needs to be funny to work. If it's just "hurrr hurrr me no like this, it retarded bad, hurrrrr" it's crap. That's precisely what the comic "parodying" CC did. "Hurr hurr, I fat like Lalia, me fat eat everything, hurr hurr" -Posted on Mar 28, 2008 | | User: RiftWalker | | | | The difference is with "King of the Hill" it doesn't look like someone wiped their ass and called it a comic. The guy used no effort what so ever only to bash something that is more popular. -Posted on Mar 28, 2008 | | User: Boss of Nova | | | | You have to have read a lot of terrible gaming webcomics and recognize the conventions that they use- it's inherent in getting the humor of it. It'd be like watching "King of the Hill" and having never been to or met someone from Texas- you'd be getting only half the picture. -Posted on Mar 28, 2008 | | User: jauntx | | | | nothing brilliant about it. Parody or not, it's painfully unfunny. -Posted on Mar 28, 2008 | | User: Boss of Nova | | | | That's basically the point of Power Up, it's a satire of lousy gaming comics, right down to the lousy copy+paste art. I think it's pretty brilliant. -Posted on Mar 27, 2008 | | User: RiftWalker | | | | I just saw that and it is so damn hilarious. It wouldn't be near as funny if his artwork was drawn by someone with skills above a 4 year old's. -Posted on Mar 27, 2008 | | User: cravingcontrol | | | | I thought it was kind of funny. Not particularly high-brow, but like I can talk? -Posted on Mar 26, 2008 | | User: jauntx | | | Not much of an issue when one of THE worst comics on the net attempts to mock you.
It's kind of like watching a cranky toddler on a tricycle trying to keep up with the big kids on mountain bikes.
It's actually pretty sad. -Posted on Mar 26, 2008 | | User: Anonymous | | | I think these guys are making fun of you:
