FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Potatos. Taters. Potaytos and potahtos. Who doesn't know 'em? And yet 500 years ago only South American Indians did! So while most of us Europeans - who now can't live a day without their puree/chips/crisps/etc. - munched on maize, they'd been growing that thing for the past TEN THOUSAND YEARS! Today, you can find a hundred different varieties within a single valley in the Andes. Hell! An average Indian farmer grows a dozen of 'em! The mother of all potato kind is Solanum Brevicaule - a native to souther Peru. However, 99% of all taters worldwide descend from from the Chilean subspecies, Solanum Tuberosum Tuberosum.
